nova gte build!

Its not a turbo or even 2ltr but i love the sound!!!!

that project car started out as a 1.2 nova sting carb model, i then proceeded tro rip out the wheezy 1.2 and install a 1600 8v engine from an old gte i had that was rotten to pieces and recoevering from a back end smash.

here she is will get some pics of her outside the next tiem i get it out of the garage.

speedlines!! oldskool or what

My favourite bit, don;t you just love the sound of dual carburetion?

And it just wouldn;t be a nova without some rot! lol

still to do:

Welding
Rear arches
new Cambelt
Paint
Brake Hoses
Interior (possibly digi clocks??)

Done to date:

Dropped 1600 8v in
Fitted the 40's
Fitted new fuel pump
Fitted new coil and leads
Cleaned dizzi
Ne-ground valves back into seats
New valvestem oil seals and guides
New head gasket
256mm discs and callipers
Lowered -60mm all round on spax shocks and springs
Stripped out interior for cobra 'classic' rear seats and cage _carpet.

More updates and pics as it happens, will be doing the belt and reassembling brakes and bleeding/filling.

Comments welcome

quick update,

not ahd chance to do much work this weekend but i;ve broken the back on the rest of the parts i needed.

Saturday:

Went to demonm tweeks to get all the interior bits and pieces and came home with

mountney steering wheel + momo boss
omp roll cage
2 X cobra classic seats for the back seats
2 more harnesses (3 point)
seat frames
various bits of hose and hose clips, joiners etc etc
polished ally gear knob
carpets
fule filter
braided brake hoses

Then on sunday it was off to whitley bay for two of the most pristine used nova doors i have ever seen and at a bargain price of £60 for the pair. Just as iw as leaving the guy ran out and said he had a nova gsi master cylinder that i could have free of charge so a proper top result!!

This week i will be:

Fitting the rest of the braided hoses,
connecting up all breathers and servo pipe work,
bleeding and re-filling brakes
quick setup of the carbs by me before i go to the RR
Fitting steering wheel
Fitting gear knob,
Fitting one seat to drive it too and from garages!

taking upto the roundabout near miy house for a handling testa nd toclear the exhaust and engine of crap tyhen off tot he rollers

keep checking for more updates

finally got some porgress on the nova but its a bit of along story

we'll start at the rolling road, took the car to the rr to get setup and see if a good rag on the rollers would clear what i though was just crap built up in the exhaust system that was making it smoke, as he got it upto third gear the yard outside was full of plumes of blue smoke which didn't appear to be getting any better, worse in fact.

So i got back in the car after having it set-up to standard'ish spec ie stock igniton advance and standard fueling.

I took it to a mates garage for him to have a look at and he also said ' no back pressure, valve stem seals done, guides ok. Must be crap in the exhaust. So he had a tinker with it and couldn't get to the bottom of, having just done the hg i didn'y really want to take tyhe head off again but it was looking like the only option. so off the head came and out came the oil for a leak down test. as soon as i tipped it into the bore it ran out!!! Oh dear obviously the rings then. So the engine is now stripped and reayd for the new rings, but while it was out i decided to go for some steal rods (cheers crash!!) new shells, bearings, pins etc to get me few more revs out if it.

On a brighter note all of the above has been purchased. seats are in and so are the front harnesses. the cage is being painted by my mate and my new ROT FREE doors have been primed and ready for painting, i should ahve the car back and welded next week plus a built up engine rady for the body so fingers crossed ad it should be done by the end of next week (now we're talking car build here so any estimate on time should be double to make it as accurate as possible lol) so we'll give it till the end of the month!
