| omega/corsa hybrid, drift machine or death trap? ive been thinking wud it be possible to cut front an rear ends off an omega an a corsa b an make a 2.5/3.0l v6 rear wheel drive corsa using the omega drive train and suspension, electrics an floor pan, while still retaining a corsa like shape, all be it a very wide version?? ive seen a croation guy do similar with a calibra 4x4 and a black tigra. would it be any good at drifting or drag strips?? any 1 wi previous experience wanna comment? i understand the legal implications of a "cut an shut" but hey it wud b fun round a track, cant promise ill build it but im a mechanic whos off work for 2 mth soon.......... who knows wat i mite get up to!!!!! |

| Would think the wheel base would be a little short and snanchy for drifting, V6 Omegas drift well with the right bits sorted.

| tbh it would be easyer to put the engine in the back, driving the rear wheels imo.
overall you'll have less weight (no prop/txb), and grip would be immense over the rear wheels. Suppose not really suitable for a drift car tho .
Hey you'll still be drifting just have to go faster

| cheers for the replys guys, ive seen the skoda/caviler rear engined set up on here an to be honest i think id rather change the floor pans an suspension over an go front engine rear wheel drive, that way all the suspension is in line properly, provided i weld the new floor in square!!! |

i think i need to get the two cars together an take pics an measurements |

| Take the shell off the corsa and put to one side...take the shell off the omega and put to other side, shorten the chasie on the omega mid section, fabricate a new floor for the short base omega, cut floor from corsa and place shell over new omega floor and weld (might be wise to fit rollcage in before hand for a snug fit). tweek corsa shell to fit wings and wheels. |

| cheers jamie i think u got the same idea as me,have u done one similar b4? was gonna do the bulkhead aswell so i got the whole front end minus wings bumper an bonnet (size depending) inc engine, front suspension, inner wings, bulkhead the floor pan between the sills an the boot floor/rear suspension mounts off the omega. this wud give steering column an rack electrics full transmission etc from the omega wi a shorter lighter shell. yeah was gonna do the cage aswell, its gonna be fiddley as a standard one wont fit wi the new floor but still worth doin. |

| if you are going to do all that work, what about a full spaceframe chassis? then just drop the corsa shell onto it?! might be a little more work and welding, but i would image you would end up with a slightly better car! |

| Its the same type of thing im doing with the astra but the whole cage/chasie/bulkhead/floor ect is built from scratch. and then the astra shell is lowered on to it. |

| i wish i was good enuf and had the time to make the space frame an floor from scratch, an i cant afford to pay for it either. ill hold my hands up now, its gonna be rough an ready, not overly polished or shiney, the v6 wil be standard, lets face it the omega can shift an i shud loose a few kilos at least. this is more about making it work in my 2 mth off work than making it shiney.
cheers for the link lewis |
