This is what it looked like when i bought the car back from Wales

Then i added the Mk4 SXi alloys i'd had on my previous Mk3 (a lowly 1.4 MPI LS)
Image

Then i got some HIDs for it

At this point the next main addition to the car was an Alpine HU, but i also bought myself a better digi cam, so i took these

I was really enjoying the car, planning the next upgrades (suspension + full ICE) when 1 day in march the iE had a French kiss

This is what happens when you take a corner to fast (but under the speed limit), and a Pug 206CC is occupying the space the front end wants to slide out to.

The car was recovered by OnTime (they weren't they took 2 hours to get there!), while they had it in their possession - about a week and a half iirc - they managed to break off my wing mirrors, scratch 3 out of 4 doors and put a nice big dent in my ultra rare GSi Saloon rear bumper! Grrrrrr!

The car then went to stay with Uncle Drizz for a little while, he kindly stored it for me while i sorted funds for the repairs.

He also stripped it down ready for said repairs. Thanks Dan.

It then went off to Paul Calkin Coachwork's in Romford

Bye!

Partially reassembled prior to painting (obviously)

Then - about 2 months later - it looked like this when i went t pick it up!

Then at Billing this year

I had a couple of extras done during the repairs, nothing major - Vec B rub strips + side repeaters, smooth wings, fully colour coded wing mirrors and door handles.

There's still a fair chunk of mechanical work needed to get it 100%, but it drives!

thats prety dam kool. never seen a saloon version. didnt even know they were made.

crash looked a bitch and atleast the repairs look good.

did u pay for them or claim ur insurance
I paid, TPFT insurance

Yeah - when the weather picks up a bit!

Has the front bumper been in a little bump at somepoint? there is a slight ripple in the top of the bumper. I need to get hold of one of those phase 2 grills, look lush! Well done for getting it back on the road!

Yeah, from the state of the bumper bar - quite a significant bump, plus it needed persuading to fit - i'll be getting it sorted at some point. Might even get a reiger front bumper, dunno - not priority right now.

Well, to remedy the engine issues I'm having (awful wiring loom, engine cutting out, strange noises, the fact it's an XEV and not the right engine anyway!), it's been decided that it'll be getting an XE.

I have a plan, and provided nothing happens that would derail that, it could be done in September.

I'll also be calling on Drizz's talents to sort out the rear hubs, ARB drop links, steering arm and 1 of the lower arms next month - asap after pay day.

Nice looking saloon there, a little too 'smooth' for me, but credit where it's due! Glad to see you didn't just bin it after the crash!

Got any further plans for it?
Thanks - TBH i looked at yours alot before deciding to buy it, i wasn't entirely sure a saloon would look right, but now i wouldn't be without it!

Plenty of plans - but not nough money to accomplish them all. In the next couple of months it'll be getting XE'd - just gotta arrange collection of a donor calibra from Devon. When that's been done the priority will be finishing the ICE and getting it lowered.

looks good i was camping up at billing with you i liked it then hadnt realised it had been rebuilt from that, good work

i was the matey with the tiny nova and the hoooooooooooge tent
I think i remember the tent actually, you could've used it as a garage for the night!

You mean on the grille? - yeah i know. The Ph1 Smooth grille is hopefully only going to be a temporary measure, want an OE Ph2 GSi grille - but have to wait till a certain other 180iE owner returns to his homeland to get 1 for me.

looks nice, but why fit rubbing strips?
Because i don't like dented doors.

After paying for the doors to have all the dents taken out of them, i didn't fancy getting more. After all this is a daily drive, i don't want to be worrying about it too much.

I put some thought into which rub strips to get, and decided this was the best option, colour coded astra rub strips would have looked weird. The only issue i have with them is how the rear's finish, the original shape has been kept, but because of the tapering there's a bit of a gap - i think i'll have them redone at some point to finish in line with tthe door.

Started on the XE conversion today, got it out of the donor Calibra i bought from Trish (aka Pattycake), Ta love!

The pictures speak for themslves, and i don't really know what i'm talking about (i mainly took pictures and handed Drizz tools), but i'll explain a few little bit along the way...

Nothing much to look at but sounded awesome! (mainly due to the backbox not actually being connected to the rest of the exhaust system)

Stripping it down

The man himself!

Up she goes!

So there we are - just gotta get Brian do change the timing belt, then we can book the date for the conversion.

Me doing something!

...because we found this little surprise - well worth keeping!

Full up with all the crap we took off, and whatever else we could find

On the trailer (after it nearly fell straight off!)

A new innovation in lowering...

That was it for the day - gotta get the timing belt changed and get afew parts that it needs before putting into the iE, which will hopefully happen in the next couple of weeks.

Just want to say a big thanks to Dan, truely appreciate what your doing for me, and i'll return the favour as best i can when the time comes!

(that sounds gay, but it's not - he knows what i mean!)

Oh yeah, and a special mention for Cass, who made a sterling effort today - a hard days work she can be proud of.

It's not easy sitting in the sun reading Heat all day you know!
(i do have photo evidence, but i think it may be more than my life is worth to post it up!)

Eventually yeah, but not right now - when i go 5 stud i'll be fitting my 17" Softstars, which need refurbing and tyres first so that's ÂŁ400-ÂŁ500 taken care of.

...but before i fit them i need to sort out the suspension, and i want Koni, so that's another ÂŁ300+ unless i can find a good 2nd hand set.

And before that i've got to put a stainless cat back system on it aswell - so that's another ÂŁ300!

I have just agreed to buy a stainless manifold and sports cat for dirt cheap though, so it's not all bad!

I've had the car nearly a year now, and i can't believe the progress i've made on it - would never have thought i'd be putting an XE in it so soon!

But then i wouldn't have predicted crashing it either.....gotta be the best silver lining ever!

As for me being ahead - you'd better get a move on then hadn't you!
