| This is how we found it this morning - exactly as we'd left it - which is nice! (also remembered the digi cam today)
fubar'd ARB drop link vs brand new 1 (yes, i have been driving it with that on)
Original, made in SA front shock.
Various other shots taken throughout the day...
Spax PSX rear shocks/springs fitted - fronts (Koni's) to do tomorrow as we buggered up the shock retaining nut thing on the drivers side front strut so we had to go raid Drizz's stores at the other garage.
fubar'd steering arms - bth of these are bent, 1 more than t'other obviously! (and yes, i've been driving with these on aswell)
Brian came over to sort out my cambelt change.
Old eninge's bottom pully, which fell apart when Drizz looked at it. How was i getting charge? Dunno. Ooops...
Lightened vs Standard pot type flywheels
That's it for the pictures.
It took us about an hour an a half to get the woodruf (sp?) key off, before rounding it off a bit, then finding that actually, we don't need to remove that pully, the belt will go round it! DOH!
Couldn't replace the rear hubs either, because the one's i bought were ABD hubs, and i don't have ABS - problem.
Just a couple of things to do in the morning before it'll get put in the Astra.
More tomorrow! |

| Day 3
After a night out in Braintree, we got up at the crack of 8.30ish, just in time to watch the last 8 laps of the F1.
Cassy came to help us today, here she is, helping...
Drizz sorting out the loom
The straight steering arms fitted yesterday
About to get it under the car to go in from the bottom (the best way )
This is when Cassy started to help and took ovr camera duties...
This celebratory shot proved to be a bit premature
A fubar'd mount meant we could get it done today, as we didn't have a spare and nowhere was open to sell us a new 1. We also couldn't have finished it because the spare suspension leg we found also has a fubar'd collar, which meant that we couldn't get the old shock out. Again, nowhere open to facilitate a work around for this.
Got very pissed off 'coz i had got my hopes up about driving it home tonight. As it was i had to call my Dad to come get me - he wasn't impressed.
So, we're to reconvene next Saturday to finish it off. |

Turns out our issues with the DVLA were just the start of a series of delays, so it's not quite finished yet, but as Drizz says - hopefully this weekend! |

Oh that was with the Calibra donor car i bought off Trish (Pattycake) - getting the private reg reassigned took long than expected, but we couldn't strip the car till it was sorted. |

| Probably standard, or not much bigger - don't really see the point increasing the bore after the Cat. - is there still a gain to be had?
Tailpipe wise, it'll be oval, what kind of oval i don't know, but so long as it fits the standard bumper cut out, i'll be happy. |

Not as standard, but if you had any thoughts of getting more power from the XE eventually a slightly bigger bore might be a way of future proofing your mods without effecting the engine in its current state. Im quite sure that if you went to say 2.25 or 2.5" instead of the standard 2"(I think), it wouldn't adversly effect power now, then if you decided to go for an after market manifold at a later date, who know, maybe tb's, then the exhaust is already done.
Correct me if im wrong, and you may want to check this info with more intelligent folk than me but it might be a thought, if you have any future plans. |

| Thi si the result of this weekends work
Look good down there doesn't it!
Got it back on it's wheels after abandoning the rear hub change. The (brand new) non ABS hubs i've bought won't fit because of my Non ABS rear beam (figure that one out!) so i need an ABS beam before it can go anywhere.
But that's not so much of an issue because, although we got the XE plumbed and wired in this weekend, it wouldn't start, and we didn't have the time or the patience to stand there trying to figure out why all evening.
I'm now on the lookout for a cheap runabout to see me through the winter, something to take the pressure off of us with fixing the iE because i don't really want to be cutting corners, which we've had to start doing. So i want to have the time to put those things right and finish it off properly before i have to rely on it for daily transport.
This obviously means i'll have to cancel my appointment for the exhaust, good job i didn't leave a deposit! |
