Mk3 Astra V6 5dr sleeper (56K go home)

Got ourselves a lockup for the sole purpose of project motors. No more than a week after getting the keys, we were out viewing our first victim: 1995 Mk3 Astra LS 1.4 minus cylinder head.

The old boy wanted £150, but we managed to use the rusty wheel arch to knock him down to £85. So that, plus £35 recovery = £120 shell that's structurally sound! Result

Here she is:

Aint she a beaut?

We'll be keeping the bodywork entirely as it is. Looking to source some 1.7TD badges for the back too

Rims wise, I think we'll opt for some cheap **** crap looking 15s with some decent rubber. If we can get steel wheels that will do the job - ideal!

First task was to remove the 1.4 lump that's got no head! Appears to have dropped a valve into cylinder 1.

Oh dear

Lower arms were a PITA

I set about testing our brand new hoist was fit for the purpose

Removed...

Empty engine bay ...

There are a few problems needing sorting out before the new engine goes in. The ARB has came adrift of the lower arms and the brakes have lost all pressure so the pedal hits the deck with no braking action.

We'll replace the front brakes and rear beam with something more suitable and hopefully we'll spot the issue. I'm hoping it's a goosed caliper at the front as they'll be getting replaced anyway.

Keep your eyes on this thread as it may move quicker than expected, especially if a load of parts we have our eye on come our way

We'll be using V6 brakes, so it'll be 15" Vectra steelies, with 15" Cavalier / Astra ones at the rear, to hide the discs. Anyone trying to spy the braking setup will be put off with a classic pair of wheel-trim spinners

We'll investigate replacing the master cylinder. It's possible that it's goosed anyway and that's the problem with our brakes, so it'll get swapped for an GSi number.

wheel trim spinners are the key!!

no-one ever suspects a car with wheel trim spinners... make sure at least one is really really wobbly!! that is obligatory!

Wobbly? I was thinking of the obligatory "crap driver" kerb treatment.

Anyone got some suggestions for the back?

I was thinking "GTi" - "Zetec" - "Turbo" - "Sport" or the word "Umsher" spelled out with fridge magnets
