| i should soon be receiving steel rods off rallyman and then the block will be sent to my local engine builders. what sort of power are the standard pistons able to take does anyone know just that i'm looking at making a very solid engine that will run around 300bhp maybe a bit more cheers |

| keep 'em coming buddy i'll be doing this myself at some point, it will be handy for many people
i've heard 350 mark for pistons/rods is the limit in the Let. I think its probably more down to how dialled your ignition timing and fuelling is, if it's knocking like hell as it is, then it wont see anywhere near 350 before the pistons fall apart.
What are you going to use for management ?? Let ECU or programmable ??
to make reliable power, check all the clearances (piston to bore, crank end float, etc) - they're in haynes i think, renew shells and make sure you have good oil pressure and a good cooler if you're planning to give it pain.

| standard pistons can take 400bhp
as for rods its better to be safe and use uprated ones i.e. scoobys ones especially for the price u can get em at the mo

I you get the fuel/timing wrong at this power level, you will loose the motor in a few secs. I would have a good look at the managements system options before proceeding.

| sheeet, 1.8 bar !! low compression pistons i'd assume ?!
If youre gonna use standard management with a rising rate FPR then a wideband is essential so you can always monitor the mixture and make sure it's not going lean. Also i'd suggest looking into det-cans - i've seen some funky diy set-ups, the knock sensor is a mic so you could theoretically hook it up to your stereo and listen for knock, but i think motronic would probably sort itself out ??
chip is the man i think he's turboed a c20xe.
Im tempted to go water injection and standard compression - honda style they push out massive bhp with piddy engines !! |

Run 102.6 leaded racing fuel mixed with tolune and Water/Methanol water injection 51/49 mix. (not aquamist) Boosted 2.2 bar on the dyno. Strangely the car is his wife's everyday drive !!! He is busy building his drag car.
I would recommend the use of a wideband. If you intend using it on the road, you will need fine tuning as the dyno is not always that representive of road conditions.
The motronic knock sensing will not work properly if you change cams and it is only used up to a certain RPM (If I remember correctly 5500 RPM) Knock sensors is sensitive for certain frequency band but the when is important and that get changed with different cams.
If you are going to use water injection as a way to achieve high boost,...remember it becomes a single point of failure.(Make sure the pump....pumps at the right pressure and the water bottle is full etc etc. |
