| 1984 Mk2 Carlton..... My Billing Mission....
Apalling camera phone pic there.
My mission is to make this Mk2 make it to Billing this year!
As it stands......
-The head is off (I cross threaded a spark plug turns out the headgasket was on its last legs anyway)
-It ran out of MOT
-The exhaust is like a sieve!
Its a very rust free car, but the bodywork needs tidying. Im hoping to get it road legal and also dropped with some rimmage by Billing
I also have a spare exhaust from my other Mk2 that I hope to liberate soon

| This ones a 1.8 GL haha!
Thanks for the positive responses! Gives me more motivation to get it sorted. I have to say of the years Ive been going to Billing Ive yet to see a Mk2 Carlton. Seen plenty of senator As (which is probably what you chaps are thinking of with the 3.0) and other old 4 door RWD vauxs, but never a Mk2.
However this year thanks to TotalCarlton.com I reckon we should have a few turning up!
As for this car.....
Ive got some 15" BMW cross spokes for it that Ill be putting some tiny tyres on. Dont think Ill get much stretch though unless I put 165/50s on there and I think thats too thin really. Also got some spacers to help get the stance right. Id love to put some fruitcake 9" wide rims on but am too poor
I reckon I can get mega slammage at the rear using corsa dampers but the fronts are proving to be more of a headscratcher. May just take the struts to my local rally man and get them coilover'd. I can get stiff shocks to fit (Gaz Monza fronts fit... sooooper stiff). Hmm wonder what the lead time is on those actually!
Luckily I have 2 of these cars so I can suss the suspension on the second one while I get this one road legal! Popping up there to do some more work after din dins TBH with the cost of parts to change the headgasket, I should of sourced a dizzyless XE and put that it, but nevermind.... for another day maybe!

Its pretty much identical to my mums old Carlton GL she had when I was about 5, which makes it all the more special to me! The interior trim is the same, the colours the same, even bloody smells the same! Only thing different is the engine as mums was a 2.0
Forgot to add.... this all has to be done in the evenings as I have NO free weekends or days between now and Billing!
And Lewis.... yeah currently stands at 5 2 of those are heading to the scrap heap though so reaaaaaally its only 3. Honest. |

| mk2 came as a 2.2 CIH and these are super rare now due to the manta boys breaking them all for the engine.
Mk3 2.4s I dont think were ever officially sold in the UK
So your best bet is the Frontera! They used the 2.4 CIH Lump IIRC |

| Yeah I think Ill get them 185s. Makes sense really. And those arent my wheels!
Better photos are just uploading now.
Spent ANOTHER evening tidying and getting everything where I want it. At least now its go go go. Made a list of else I need to put it all back together. Also trying to banish silly modification ideas for Billing and stick with the Fantastic Four: Rebuild, MOT, Rim, Slam |
