| Skodall Favalier RWD Hi
First post on mig web, good looking site with lots of good info.
I have just embarked on one of my first car projects, and quite an ambitious one at that too.
I have decided to take my beloved Skoda Favorit and transplant a Cavalier front end in it... hence the name: Skoda/Vauxhall Favorit/cavalier - Skodall Favalier!!!!
And to make it more interesting the cav engine is going to be slotted into the boot!
I have a few pictures now, but will take a while to resize them all to fit.. so for the moment here are a few 'beauty shots' of the Favorit. |

I removed the rear beam
After that i removed the tank - not sure where that pic has gone!
Then i finished with the interior |

| Right well the reason i am using such a crappy old engine is that i am doing this on a shoestring... I want to get this up and rolling, then i will splash the wedge on a cali turbo engine!!!
As for the subframe, my plan is to weld in two box section cross members to take the front and back mount points for the sub frame, then build in a roll cage that ties to the subframe to stiffen the whole thing up..
any thoughts? |

| im liking this and the 8v engine (if its the SEH) is meant to be bomb-proof from what i have heard, so you can give it as much stick as you want
excelent project IMO

| As for crazy, i don't think so, well i hope not!!
As for the 8v engine, i only really intend to use it as a stop gap. get the car all setup with this engine, sort all the bugs out, and then drop in a tasty new lump!!!
Plus....... Have you noticed the colour of the car... looks like primer doesn't it, well this is the actual factory colour!!! its so rubish!! |

| Thanks for the comments,
I have now cut the back end of the skoda out ready to accept the subframe... Have pictures, but can't find the download cable so will sort them out later.
Now... the next hurdle for me is to purchase a MIG welder. I have seen a few cheap gasless mig welders, anyone got any experience with these, There is a 90 amp migmate for 60 quid on ebay.
I have heard that gasless is better for outside welding, but has anyone got any real experience...??? |

| No, gas is always better unless it is windy and the gas will blow away.

| well i will be doing most of my welding outside, and knowing the uk weather, I wonder if gasless is the way to go just for that reason alone?! |

I get on fine with CO2 and have done all my welding outside.
There's a little known fault that seems to be common to all SIP MIG welders (mine included). I found with both my old one and new one that the feed was pretty intermittent and didn't work out why until last year. If you add a brace between the axles of the two feed rollers it'll sharpen its performance up a treat.

| Thanks for the advice Ian!
I think i will go for a normal mig welder, most can take gasless wire, so i get the best of both worlds! |
