get a decent sized one, on a die grinder if possible, will chew through that in no time

Wow that's alot cheaper than i thought it would be.

i found my drill goes just as quick as my die grinder. (with the bonus of not having to wait for the 50ltr compressor to charge up, really need to get a bigger one)
your drill does 22,000 rpm? i need a drill like that! or you need a new die grinder

lol not a bit over board no?

no, the faster you can spin the burr the cleaner and faster it will cut, they are designed for high rpm

True.
Found the ABS ring isn't that hard. But have just finished off my last two belt sanding belts...
I'm louder than gods own revolver and twice as shiney.
Broken my belt sander. So i thought i'll take them apart and then get them machined so it's a proper job... Then i got the funking dog.
So one side, loosen off the handbrake spinning adjuster, disc wont come off, beat off with beat blow hammer as bit of the handbrake shoes fall out... One shoe is jammed out some a unknown reason.. Needs to be replaced even tho they arn't that low... Stub axle taps out..
Other side, thinking the worse.. Disc comes off easy, tap the axle.. Don't move. 20mins of beating with a proper hammer, its not lose, but wont come off, maybe a burr of metal is holding it on.. Funking dog with it.

ABS bit machined off..
Now it doesn't stick though the back..
But still sits in the back plate, so it centers and holds the hub in the right place..
All back together now, off to get the tracking check tomorrow after work and hope it's ok. If not then the real funking about starts...
And the tiny amount of room i have...lol

good work, at least now you can get a true reading if the beams scueiff or not.
Great work Benn![]()

Took the car out the garage yesterday, even tho there was an inch of salt on the road..Popped down to Protyre (thank you to Paul and Jim and Euan)
New print out...
One from before to compare..
So it's better and now in the "acceptable" area But i'd like it better than that. So with a bit of maths (trig) i can work out the size of the skim to make to correct the toe and get the camber the same on both sides...
So car back in the garage, get the back jacked up again and start stripping...
In the week i popped in to the bodyshop and made a brake line loop to stop fluid loss.
Getting it fitted, (can see bits that need a repaint under there too)
Then start unbolting everything again...
Everything off, beam out, again see more bits that need painting
Stripped everything off the beam..
Can re-furb my calipers now, paint my break lines too.
Beam out side so i could beat the ARB out,
Only one bit stuck.. I cant get the bushes out to replace..
So i've cut the outer rubber down, so it can all be powder coated and then i'll try and get the bushes out again..

You may need to strip it down with new bearings and vane blades, they can wear if you're not using any lubricant - made a huge difference to mine, even with an oiler there were quite worn.
TBH, if buying again I think I'd pay the extra and get an electric die grinder - maybe a small one to start with and a heavier one later. Flexible drive would be nice as well!
Hhhmm been a while since i updated, that cause i've been working away..
So rear beam... With it off and at the powder coaters i stripped the hubs down..
Backing plates cleaned and painted,
Beam back.. Looks great, had to drill out the old bushes (hence the rusty dust in some pics)
Time to build the hubs and braking bits up.. Garage isn't the nicest place too sit. So made a work bench and sat in front of the tv to do it..
Not a fun job when you stripped it a month before and didn't take any pics to help you remember...
Discs grease masked and painted. (painted the edge of the disc as i hate it when they are all rusty)
Grease it,
Then paint it,
Then wipe paint off and the braking surface is clean...
So then start rebuilding beam, Remember my bad caster? Using some tig (soh-cah-toa) i worked out what was needed to fix it and had some shim made to correct. (left 1.4mm and right 2.9mm cut on a lathe)
Hubs on, disc on.
Calipar on,
Bolts painted
ARB painted Arden blue..and fitted with new bolts..
Coilovers stripped and cleaned ready to refit.
All new brake lines made.. Altho that don't look that great, they are all bent with a bender to be right and night, all have been painted too.
Hose clips..
The Goodrich braided hoses are sh*te too. So i've wire wheeled them all clean and repainted them too.. So they look a bit better..
Will refit tomoz,
And that's everything up to speed.
Edit, needs an oil change so...

Nice work dude.
Where is the lil man?!
in this pic below, is it me or is it cross threaded.....

The copper lines where knackered so the union was seized, so it was just in place to keep paint from the threads...

Great work BennIs it much longer until it's back out on the road?

Need to do a bit of tweeking, one side the shoes are out to far so are holding the disc locked on..lol Other side the toe is still a bit out.. So not long.
Cheers too.

Got the hub off, measured everything and worked out the angles again. Still says 2.9. So put everything back together and will wait till i get a tracking report before worrying any more. Adjusted the handbrake as well so it's just touching as it should be set. Did a lil touching up too.. As bit had got marked when fitting, so took finished pics.
Looking at the above, i dont like that old looking fuel pipe.. Might replace it.
Did the brake lines in blue to match the under side of the car (lines on the floor plan are black so they don't look like I've painted over them while doing the floor)
Saw this some where, thought what a great idea. So used some black silicone and did it. Looks tidier i find.

Great work BennLooks great under there. How are you finding rear disks? Not sure whether I should bite the bullet and get some?
