Re: my new mk3 astra gsi...... turbo ;)

well had a bash at re sealing the block,

this is how theyd left it, and there is actually a crack above where the quick steel stops

so chisled off all the chemical metal and all the quick steel to start again, but the 2 cracks joined and turned into a chunk,

    extra bit

then degreased and thoughrally cleaned and degrased and applied the quicksteel, needed it into all the cracks and resesses and all round the edges

left it over night to make sure, then started it up and waited patiently

noting for about a minuite, i thought yes ive sorted it

    but then the seeping started

    aw well worth a try

When you were running it to see if it was still leaking where were you getting the oil feed to the turbo from?

I aint really a fan of body kits to that extent i prefer subtle one's but then again it'll be a while before i can afford to even think of an engine transplant let alone body kits, either way bet it's fun to drive, which also brings me to a question, aint it hard to keep that kinda power down in a front wheel drive car?

bit confused about what point your tryin to make mate? its just a standard astra gsi with a front splitter and debadged?? and yea it is alot of power goin thru the front wheels, but can be done if driven correctly! not only motorway acceleration which is where its at its best, but also sets some good quater mile times for a heavy car! its about how u drive it! not ideal, but certainly do-able!

Depends how you drive it matey, remember this is an astra, it'll be a lot more stable than a Corsa or nova let, torque steer won't be as apparent.

Also it may produce 360ish BHP, but only at a peak, so if you hold a steady at partal throttle through a corner you're producing a constant... 180bhp lets say, which will be easy to hold through a fast corner, then you can wind on the power on the exit.

Also, this GSI doesn't look too far from standard to be honest mate. It doesn't have a bodykit??

Really... I thought you use iron rods hence the cost of welding cast

nope, it costs so much due to how hard it is to successfully do, you have to heat the piece before welding and cool it slowly after, even then itll probably crack.
