I suggest you do a search Alex, as that question has been done to death. In a nutshell you're not gonna get much more out of it without spending more than the car probably cost you.

still investigating into the piston ring problem at the minuite, the blocks all beens stripped bare, nitromorced and repainted, the cranks been machined checked and measured, and is now fine. and got all the new shells! the oil pump has been stripped down and checked and is fine, so everythings ready for assemberly really, just need to source rings then he said he could have it all back together that day!

head will come compleate and only 500miles old, but might have it checked over just to be safe!

then hopefully the bloody thing will be able to hold its self together!

Any way of telling me were you got them from?

    Lots of Cavs.

Re: my new mk3 astra gsi...... turbo ;)

Ronnie, I know this thread has been effectively 'dead' for a while but when it was bumped the other day I've read it all the way through. It's taken me a few evenings but it's been more entertaining that watching the telly by a long shot!

Before I get cracking reading the RWD thread, I wanted to post up to say how this thread has motivated me to get my finger out and crack on with my own various projects (though none of them are anywhere near as ambitious as this!). Every time the car's kicked you in the nuts you're straight back up and at it again.

It's a shame how that bloody oilway ended the car in FWD form, but I'm hoping that you're having more luck with the RWD version.

Lastly, I think it's fair to say that anyone who has ever picked up a spanner would agree that you're a LEGEND!!!

Re: my new mk3 astra gsi...... turbo ;)

Thanks very very very much there certainly was alot of passion in the build back then lmao looking at the dates of updates it was like update christmas eve, update christmas day, update boxing day, update 27th dec, update 28th dec, update 29th dec, update 30th dec, update 1st jan update 2nd jan, oh look we're in another year lmao was pretty much daily updates,
i try to make my threads a good read, and i hope they are, both entertaining and informative for anyone else trying to do the same kinda thing
the rwd thread got off to a cracking start, but kept getting distracted by other things if you've read the van thread spiraling out of control lmao and now we've started a family all the times been taken up, but hoping to get the rwd project back on track soon

Thanks man!. How was the handling of your front wheel drive Astra Turbo before the breakdown?
Was it a nervous track searching car or a nice clean steered car with a lot of power?

(I'm still doubting a 4x4 conversion before I swap my engine for a 300+ps one)

i didnt think it was too bad really, obviously if you held it on the limiter and went through the gears first second third fourth your front wheels will be doing 130mph and your rear wheels will be doing 10mph, but driven sensibley it was good, there are many people on here with c20let fwd track cars with more power than i ever had

but to behonest its been over a year and a half since i last drove it (so long ago) so can hardly remember, but something i never forget was how well it performed in 4th 5th and 6th, never felt/heard/experienced anything pull like it did at high speeds, almost felt like it accelerated as fast in 3rd as it did in 6th oh i miss it
