Right then, i thought i'd start a thread on the progress of my 5 door astra Mk3. I wanted somthing different for the interior other than boring black cloth, so i bought the interior out of a 160ie saloon. So a coulpe of weeks ago Dan, Brian, Mark and myself started removing the old and putting in the new. Sounds easy enough But i wanted the electric rear windows lol. Which we though would be just simply adding motors and the looms to the doors and plugging it into the existing loom. Nah Took the door cards off to find different plugs So it was a case of changing the entire internal loom. IN ONE DAY So we got cracking. Below are ome pics from the day of joy!!!!! (Sorry for pictur quality)
We had some lighting issues As the interior was from a saloon all the wiring for the lights was different. Eg When switching on the indicators the reverse and break lights would start flashing
Mark hard at work (wearing a non beige top Has the world gone mad?)
Dan was feeling the pressure
Brain came down for an hour! 3 hours later he's still helping out. Cheers mate.
20:00 and i still needed to drive home LOL
But at about half nine we had finish, but then the problem started to filter through
Firstly my seatbelt wouldn't fit in the buckle.
I was blowing No 7 fuse every time is started. Dan sorted this the other nite with a 20 amp fuse
Couldn't reconnect the alarm as the wiring colours are all different to UK models
Heated rear screen, wiper and wash didn't work (seeing as saloons didn't have this it ain't surprising lol)!
Central locking doesn't work on the boot either as its wired differently on a saloon
Central locking on the rest of the car is playing up. For some reason the doors lock when i turn off the ignition
We also fitted some electric mirrors and started fitting the electric sunroof
Here is the new interior and carpets in. Not great pics but you can see whats been done!
The day before we started this Dan uprated my brakes to gsi
I went to see Brian again the following week to get help fitting my new led's. Ian (Evil) did a really good job and made me some super bright heater controls. He has put and led behind each number and red and blues for the tempurature controls.
Old leds
New Led's
My car is in the bodyshop Monday to be turned into a gsi lookalike but sadly i havn't been able to find a gsi front bumper yet. I'll add some progress photos during the week
Body Work Fun!
Cav gsi skirts being modified to fit car. The doors are now also getting a respray!
Wings getting preped
Bumper removed ready for gsi and minor rust spot on arch repaired
Whells removed to help for access when fitting skirts! 17's now all clean and ready to go on
Tailgate electrics wired in today. Central locking fault finding has obviously stopped seeing as there are no doors lol. Erm not much else to report at the moment but it should be back on the road come Saturday evening
