| Re: mk2 astra gte im a bit usless when it comes to updates, but i have been making progress lol
first thing was to sort the mess of wiring for the dash, its a bit rubish to take pics of but as you can see its now alot neater and there is a discontection block for when i need to take the dash out
the electrics now for the first time EVER all work
wired in all the gauge lights this time as it makes the car look more alive when its on
while the car was apart and i was doing electrics i decided to put the race battery in, i decided to put this under the passengers seat, now anyone that has see these will knwo they have m6 terminals this makes it very hard to get jump leads on.
so i have wired the car in with perimiant battery posts to make jump starting much easyer
brilliant little things lol
i decided a little while ago that i was going to get rid of the hydraulic handbrake as i dont use it, and tbh its a waste of time on a track car, and i could think of something much better to go in its place.
i have now fitted a brake bias valve instead, this combined with my bias pedal box should allow us to fine tune the breaking of the car.
im still waiting on some engine parts to turn up but im hoping they are hear later today.
ive also spent alot of time tidying the car this time welding up holes here and there that ive made over the years.
im hoping this will be the car near enough finished |

| Re: mk2 astra gte Looking good Rob but that is the last place I would fit a live wire off the battery incase you ever stuffed it in sideways into something.
I look forward to hearing how the next mod goes

| Re: mk2 astra gte wellll today a nice big box turned up
and inside was my new inlet ive been waiting for
here are some build pics there are 4 main parts to the manifold.
first is a head flange this is cnc cut on a milling machine, out of billet alloy
in this pic you can also see one of the runners that is the 2nd main part to the manifold
next is the base plate for the plenum
the ''lines'' are just machining marks that look worse because of the camera, you cannot feel them to touch.
this plate has built in velocity stacks for proper air flow.
and the final part is the plenum.
add all these bits together and you have
cannot wait to get it fitted now and get it back on the Rolling road to see how it effects the power output
some pics of it all fitted up (with one bolt lol)
more than happy with the manifold just hope it goes as well as it look |

| Re: mk2 astra gte Liking that inlet a lot. How soon will you get it on the rollers?
The charging/jumping port is a good idea. I have a similar idea fitted to my Nova if the worst ever happens (locked out).

I'll know within a few seconds of mapping it if the new inlet is doing its job or not.
Dont think we're going to get to the rollers for at least a few weeks now though, just because everywhere local to Rob that we've asked has no slots free over the festive period on a day that both me and rob can make it there. |

| Re: mk2 astra gte been doing more work today, still got quite a bit left to do before mapping on monday (fingers crossed)
most of what i have been doing is not picture worth however i did get another parcel today.
after donnington being cancled and us booking onto mallory park instead, we were both a little worred about not having a decent baffled sump yet as one of the corners is a little vicious by all acounts Quote:
Gerard's
Following the road behind Gerard's, you come to the exit of the corner, with another Park 'n View area high above the track. Speed through Gerard's is vital to a quick lap at Mallory Park, so racers are really "tanking on" here. Exit speeds of over 125mph are not uncommon. There are fine views of Gerard's, Stebbe Straight and the Esses.
| with the size of the corner and the speeds involved its very possible that i may get some oil surge so it was decided that in the absence of a decent baffle or a dry sump we would use a acuasump.
and some gumph to save me typing http://www.accusump.com/accusump_tech.html#whatis
they recomened it to be fitted inside in easy reach to open and close the manual valve so i fitted it on top of the gear tunnel
took most of the day to fit that as i spent quite a while out getting hydraulic fittings
final thing to do was to check that when i get my new 90 deg fitting for the inlet that the boost pipe work will work ok
should be getting the turbo bolted back on tommorrow ready to be fired up this weekend ready for money |

| Re: mk2 astra gte Ready for money?
Its had enough of that lately
I hope you meant "ready for monday"
I'll bring my new mapping laptop up to try out, as Ive not used this one yet, but bring yours anyway just in case my new one doesnt want to connect or something gay like that, would be a hell of a long way for me to go to not map it, lol! |
