1.6 16v Throttle bodied corsa

Car was running with a 190bhp x16xe engine for about 10months, on a pretty much standard bottom end, then came donnington park track day (national day for you ford lovers)

was going well....

until this happened.....

closer inspection revealed this:

so it was time to gather some new goodies:

and shave a bit of weight:

the car in question:

the old engine:

progress has been slow recently as i had to move house, however i now have a bigger garage so working on the car will be better!

obtained a new bottom end for £20 and a new head for £20

the bottom end is currently being fetteled, should be finished by monday, then ill get it bored for the pistons.

soon as the bottom end is build and fitted to the car ill spend some money on the head!

spec is as follows:

PSS-9 Bilstein coilovers
TAS solid top mounts
f13cr gear box (i do have a 4.18 final drive but unfitted)
Quaiffe ATB
whiteline rear ARB
poly bused alround
vibratechnics rear gear box mount
jenvey 45mm tapers
jamsport head (undecided on spec as yet)
DK engineering crank
saenz rods
woosner slipper pistons
newcams of some description
comp mos + technomag wheels
v6 brakes
rear discs
racing developments roll cage
stripped out interior
buckets and harnesses
Gotech MFi pro management (soon to be MFi Pro X)

erm.... not sure what else, but ill add bits as and when they happen!

steveboyslim has been a great help with sourcing me parts at good prices too.

stuart, yeah it was in total vauxhall a while back, and i made smallblockxe.com when i was in bored pretending to be at uni...... needs updating!

novashed, the spec sheet will be pretty special once done. cant wait to have it build tho!

the mounting lugs for the clutch cover plate, shouldnt they be radiused into the flat part of the fly? looks like there'll be a stress concentration against the foot of the raised parts.

Don't worry small blocks don't have enough torque to break owt

hummm, there are equally decent kits available for less money, i ran gotech mfi pro on my old engine spec, costs 850+vat supplied fitted and mapped! cant beat that, worked well too!

can be supplied with dressed loom for less than 400 IIRC!

sorry lame sales pitch there!

iv come accross some parts at very good prices for this engine, if i wasnt working at jamsport it wouldnt be possible.

the flywheel is radiused, dont panic!

Longlive, before i worked at jamsport i paid full price for the management, which back then was 1000+vat supplied fitted and mapped. i had an omex system which i sold before fitting, due to the cost really.... in all honesty, i think that there for most peoples needs there isnt a better management system out there, the loom is great, comes covered ready to fit with plugs on etc, and the software is easy to use, can data log, the pro has launch control and full throttle gear shift built in.

only reason i removed the mfi pro is to fit mfi pro X, dont know how much better that is yet as we only recieved the first 3 pro x's into the country on friday. should have some news on it soon.

so in summary, id buy it again.

MarkyG, i gave the block to our head port and polish guy and asked him to port and polish it...... he did the same to all the oil ways etc aswell.

lee, this was the same cost and the same weight, and it was pot type before so saves buying a new helix pressure plate.

is the corsa still going to be pushing 190bhp or you looking to try break the 200bhp mark?
Oh and so much respect to you for making the corsa the way it is.

Power will be largely dependant on cam choice, and sonce he sold his 288 newmans for something wackier, Id imagine 200+ will be the aim

the aim is way past 200, people have had lower spec engines get 220bhp from the 1.6
