New 993cc (LOL) project nova!! 56k warning

Well its not mine its my bros (16) he got it on christmas day, i had nothing to do with it. well my brothers got some major plans to list a few

Koni Suspension off mine once i get my coilovers
front, rear, gsi bumpers + gsi side skirts all painted gloss black.
Fully stripped which it already is. we started on boxing day then he wants to get a multi point cage.
Cav wheels painted black.
He's also already got a 1.4 sr lump to drop in for the time being, he wanted a c20xe but i advised to have a 1.4 lump while he gets use to drving then i will xe it for him.
ashley racing exhaust system
twin webbers.
so hes not chaving it up like some new nova drivers ( I have taught him well )
it has no rust underneth or on the arch's although they have been rolled for 16s so i might wake a lick of paint on them inside to stop them from rusting.
1 tiny dent in the door 10p size (which he moaned about typical)

well this is the story up to now!

should have seen his face when he saw that bonnet (came with the car) first thing he said was rip that off now!!! so we went and swapped it for standerd one and 90 quid on top. result!!!

done all the work himself as im never at home till 5.30 bit dark then!

thats all for now folks.

Very admirable taking such a big project to start with but you may want to warn him how much it will cost to get the desired end result and would he not be better investing the money into a higher caliber car!

This is the same sort of story as my first car.. I was 16 when I got my nova, and since I couldn't drive it, I decided to rebuild it!
This meant by the time I turned 17, I knew every nut and bolt on the car!
I am of the opinion that knowing how the car works inside and out is a major part of being able to drive it properly when you pass your test, and I think this is something everyone should do before starting to drive.

As Mr Lumb said, i did the samething aswell.
Started with a standard 1.2 nova fun in white, fitted gsi interior, 1.6 gsi lump, full suspension kit and bigger brakes.
Great fun to work on and made me learn alot more about cars.

Same here, only my first car was a series III Land Rover.

I agree, knowing how a car works is 50% of being able to drive properly, and practising driving it and knowing how it reacts in certain conditions is the other 50%.

In hindsight, I wish I'd done something like a mkIII Astra, because it would have cost me less in the long run and have been worth more, and more refined, but the Landy was fun.

Was great when all my mates are driving Saxos and 306s, and I've got a Landy.

yeah insurance WILL be high with cage lowered big brakes gsi body styling(insurance will see it as a GSI in affect as it'll make it more attractive to thieves.make sure he gets a cat1 alarm with the certificate.(considering he declares all this work).my g/f's bro had a nova lowered/wheels gsi kit(gonna cost him £2300 and that was a 1.2)

Do you know which bits he's removed?? A cage only adds strength to a chassis, if the chassis is weakened it doesnt really do its job properly and a cage doesnt replace them pieces!! And by the way they stop the rear quarters folding in the middle and fooking the back windows
