Corsa track/Sprint build

The project car, something ive always fancied a little corsa gsi, with a blown head gasket came home with me for £200. Its abit tatty here and their but hey its a track car.

Stripped out the interior havnt gone mad, im going to leave the dashboard and the roof lining in place for now. Was pleased to see it all painted inside.

Engine in place and looking abit manky

2.5 hours later

Corsa waiting to be taken to my bro's house for the next step

Wacked in an electric sunroof

Gaz coilovers + harnesses

Bargain bucket seats £120 B/new

The donor car, N reg calibra turbo which i was driving about in for afew months to make sure it was running right before i pulled it out. Have to say although im not much of a calibra fan it was good fun to drive.. It had been running very lean when i bought it, turned out to be a faulty alternator. Swapped that and some new plugs and she was going like a gooden again, but i suspect their will be underlying damage from "running hot" that ill have to check out.

YouTube - calibra turbo 0-140

So soon it came time to rip the heart out of the cally so i can crack on with the rebuild,

Stripped off all the ancils ready to mount on the engine stand

LET in a box + hours of cleaning needed for it all.

On its stand and ready to be ripped apart

Cams out then head off

Found that what i had suspected was right, from running so hot No3 cylinder (which runs the hottest anyway) had glazzed the bore and this is why it was burning oil, So now ill have to rebuild the block.

Valves are dirty with allot of deposits, probably from runing lean, but is going of to a friend to check everything else is ok, ie valve guides and seats etc and refresh whatever is needed.

More to come as and when i get time..

Yeah so much to do its unreal and lots of cash to to do it properly, just hope its worth it. The car is going to be 100% mechanically sound as i wnat to take it to the ring at some point, the body work will be tidy but not mint.

Cheers, ive been tracking a mk2 astra gte and its so much fun, me and my bro are doing a sprint championship next year as afew mates already compete (a build and pics of his car will be up nearer completion), it should be a blast.

Little bit more work done, rear beam will now accept cav rear disks....

Std corsa rear beam, with our little alignment tool..

Rear beam with origonal plates cut off

These are the conversion plates that need to be welded on in the place

Plates lined up, tacked on, then clamped into place ready to weld.

All done, ready to be painted up properly.

Also got my block back all honed and good again!! and my crank has been polished, just got to make some new inlet valve guides for the head so that can be finished.

Glad to see you have started a thread on this little project, will be worth the effort once its done!

Tobys car looks proper in the background of your second to last pic, i will have to pop over and have a butchers at it with the wheels on.

I reckon he is going to have to do some more weighing in and get some coilovers to get it to sit how he wants.

He wont do that it wont be a budget track car if he just buys everything he needs lol, he is going to make the suspension mounting in the turret adjustable

one question though,
do those plates line up with the holes on the back of the beam? my mate did a nova and the way the instructions said you have to cut here bend there weld here and it seems too much but if they can be lined up and welded on then im doing that on mine!!!!

the holes that the hub studs go through wont line up with the origonal holes, you just have to re drill them, the holes that we used as guides are the hole in the center of the new plate, and the hole in the center of the bit you weld it to.. that way the hubs stay central.

hope that makes sense.

Yeah mate its just abit of fun really, Personally i love having mint motors, but they always got to the point where i didnt wanna mess it up (winter weather etc) leaving it in carparks where it may get damaged etc, this will be a worry free car.

I thought if i dont buy a diff now, ill have to pull it all out again, pull without one it will be rubbish on trackdays.. if i was doing it for just road use, i may not have bothered.
