Not much to report this week. I spent a very mixed day in south London and Guildford trying to collect a loom and ECU.

It all started when this week I realised I had not brought my loom back with me from the breakers I got the engine from. I had called them a couple of times to see if they still had it but the calibra had been crushed.

I put up a wanted post, then found a LET ECU and LOOM in the for sale section. Perfect.

A Deal was struck and arrangement made for collection today. On the way down I got a call back from the guy as I asked hm to confirm it had the Vacuum pipe on the loom and ECU and it had not. I went to see it anyway and it was definately an XE loom.

While I was that side of the river I decided to drive to the breakers on the very very long shot that I would find the loom thrown in a pile of engine bits or something.

After an hour in south London traffic I finally reach ed the yard where the young lad there recognised me and said 'You left something behind didn't you?' before going away and returning with my loom.....

It also looks like I may have secured an ECU. I wont say where from yet in case it falls through, but thanks in advance, you know who you are. One less thing to worry about.

Sunday I have to take my daughter to a party thenI am off to the MIG meet so not much else being done this weekend.

The Block is ready to go to Robs for its clean up and flexi hone and thats it for now.

Well, today I had another good session in the garage and got a couple of bits done.

The plan was to sort out all the bits I need to get shotblasted and powder coated and clean the gearbox up.

Unfortunately my High pressure washer did not work so the gearbox took longer than expected and did not come out as good as I wanted.

I did not realise that GETRAG made the F28

I also stripped down my hydraulic tappets to clear out the last of the old oil, so it should be noce and quiet.

I also looked at how the F20 gearbox part would fit into the F28 to convert it to 2wd and it wont fit. Any advice stefan?

Should fit in here?

Brian...that fitting on the box looks like the other plate we had a look at in the unit (the one off the F25) wonder if that will work?

Could be worth a try, the F20 part is too wide to fit and would be way too deep.

Why? I cleaned inside the bit where the driveshafts go and rinsed with water. Most of the old oil has leaked out hopefully. I squirted Brake cleaner everywhere after to dry it out. The insides will still be coated with oil though.

Do elaborate...

I was considering stripping the box down anyway to get the casing shot blasted and painted.

I'll pop over tonight after work. One of the FXX box plates fit the housing pcd, that I know. Maybe F25 as mentioned. I think they will need the spigot depth reducing a little. But that can be sorted easy enough.

I wont be in tonight mate. Am in London till wednesday evening.

The spigot depth is not the only problem, the diameter is too big. It wont fit at all. Would need machining down as well.

How about wednesday evening?

Brian.

If your gonna strip it its ok, just think what happens to engine oil when it mixes with water when a headgasket fails, "Super mayo"... thats what will happen to your gearbox if their is any water in it.. Just thought id warn you thats all.
