I will try a wire wheel then.

When you start to do this job one thing leads to another.

I want to run some of the cables inside behind the dash, and could only do it with the dash out. Then I could see the loom is easy to remove once all the engine bay part is loose.

I will probably end up laying the whole lot out in the living room on plastic sheets to get all the unused wires out and the re routing done.

I will get a decent car cover soon and move the shell onto the drive so I have room to work around it and more storage inside for the seats and boot install.

Snails pace is all I can manage on this.

I am already worried about how its all going back together..... So many bits and not to mention the nuts, bolts and screws.....

There is no simple way to remember where all the fixings go. I am using up my stack of Butter tbs I've been storing up... lmao

    Thats about right.... lmao

Lots of the fixings cant be replaced with Stainless, they are the little bits holding it all together. The main engine bay nuts and bolts will all be stainless though.

    Re: Brians LET Cabriolet project

Due to being made redundant and cash now going to be a problem I am reluctantly breaking this car and selling it off in parts.

I would love for the shell to be salvaged and to live on as apart from a couple of holes in the sills the rest of it is absolutely mint.

Otherwise please check out the for sale section for anything you might need, or PM me if you cant find it listed.

that is bad news mate thought something had happened when i saw all the for sale threads for your shell and that. hope it all works out for the best.

on a lighter note, i guess your perspective has changed about breaking perfectly good cars now then lmao

    Re: Brians LET Cabriolet project

Sorry to bump my old thread but the news is I never did get rid of my Astra.

Its been sat in my garage for over 2 years now and the last thing I did a few months ago was finish stripping the interior.

The thing is I now want to get on and rebuilt it. I am going to the Ring in June and as an incentive I have booked my ferry under the Astra's Reg number.

I will be keeping this thread updated with my progress.

So far, apart from stripping the Dash, Seats and carpets out I have also brought a new engine block and Pistons.

The Block was bored out to 2.1cc with brand new matching pistons and conrods from PEC.

The basic block has been built up and balanced so I just need to fit the head and other components and that done.

The real work can then start.

I will get some pictures up later of where I am and take plenty as I go.

Wish me luck, i'll need it.

Hello mate, Just read the whole thread and thought I was getting close to the end in 2010 and wondered why! Then I saw the dreaded made reduntant post, was sad to see that. But happier now that your now cracking back on with it.
    Keep up the good work.
I think I may have seen you a few months ago at PEC.

Hi Chris. Thanks for your epic patience.

You probably did see me, was probably sorting out getting my short block built by Rob. Wanted that bit done properly since it cost me so much.

Not much progress so far as I have been having a tidy up in the garage to give me room to work in there again.

Yeah it is an epic read. But a worthy one.
Robs got two of my engines, plus a Turbo. He's a top bloke. There getting pistons made for my 1.8e motors. Slightly scared how much its going to cost me.
