3mm is what you want for cage feet mounts yes, i would have put a spreader plate in underneath too as the floor isnt particularly thick

looking good though, unbeleiveable amount of work

I wouldn't worry about the strength mate the bolts go through about 8-10mm of metal! these plates are welded in where sills, floor, boot floor and chassis all meet up it takes a bit of drilling through!

Any how a bit more for you............

Of course the above welds which are on show fecked up due to firstly running out of gas then blowing through then the fecking wire reel ran out Ar5e!

    Woo penetration oo-err

The old stone chip doesn't half take fire! then drips onto your foot setting fire to you! Nice

    Bit of a clean up...............

I've got to be honest I'm starting to grow a bit sick of welding and grinding etc all the time so I thought I'd get a bit dirty for a change.....

Bit of a clean up first..

Then I chucked some pollyfiller at it....

Spent a few hours scratching it back off and got dirty...(feck I'm a bit of a looker aint I).

Sort of looks a bit like this now.............

    Oopps missed a bit..

Sprayed a bit of primer on to see if the bloody lines............well line up! Horrible bloody things..

Nice for a change from welding. Bit messy though innit!

    More soon

uh huh, i understand that, but if you dont spread the load the feet can just punch through, as the 10mm of steel can work like a cookie cutter, hence why i mention putting a larger spreader under the feet

looking good though, bet you cant wait to have it finished

Are you using gassless wire with your welder? Just the welds are quite neat but in places it looks like it has bubbled a bit.

Nope I'm using gas. But You know what it's like it blows through a little, flames and smoke etc from burning stonechip and sealer. The bits I think you mean is when I'm playing "chase the hole" So it's not bubbling as such just big dollops to fill holes! It doen't help that the plates are very thick and the car isn't so I'm welding with the welder turned a little higher then I'd like to get the pen on the plates.

I'd also like to point out I hate welding cars it's pants..

Going by the spatter and residue you may need more gas or get in a bit closer with the shroud. What wire are you using, .6 or .8? Is the gas CO2 or Argoshield light? If CO2 are you getting it from a pub? So many questions!

    lmao

It's a 'ickle halfords special with 'ickle throw away CO2 bottles using there finest 0.6 wire! Your right maybe more gas and yes in some cases being closer would be better. But what it really is, and I promise you it's the truth, weldable zinc primer makes it splatter and spew a lot. I know I should clean it before I weld it etc etc but I like to have something inbetween the surfaces so it doesn't rot away.......again.. Also where I've been stich welding there is alot of sealer that you just can't get out before you weld and it fecks it up bubbling and spewing out.

As with all things preperation is everything some are better at it than others.. (whistles while walking slowly away... )
