InsaneSwede's Astra MKI

Hello my fellow Opel/vauxhall mates..

i´d thought somebody might be interested in my project.

I got an Astra MKI GTE wich i have owned since late -96
It has gone through a lot of work since then.

first a total rebuild,, done in a hurry,, not so good
Drove it with a XE first,, blew cambelt.
Builded a heavily modified C20Ne (aprox 205hp)
pic of cylinderhead(i avent got much pics of this)

then i ran into a very cheap LET, rebuilded that one with h-profile rods and so on, and punished it like hell.
First summer with std turbo and aprox 310hp
Second summer with aprox 480hp

then it went in to heavily mods.
i have now converted it to 4wd with Toyota transmission from Celica GT4
But i´m using Calibra 16v rearaxle beam. ofcourse with toyota rear drive.
I´m also building a new engine(pics here:http://s93.photobucket.com/albums/l6...erskog/C23LET/)

pic of engine:

Contains a lot of goodies.
95.4mm stroke
87mm bore
35mm inlet valves
31mm outlet valves
Arrow rods
Woessner pistons
Sachs racing two disc 200mm clutch.
uprated oilpump
lightened flywheel
arp bolts
Cometic gasket
DTA S60PRO EMS
1680cc injectors (only 998cc in pictures)
homemade inlet manifold with homemade throttle (75mm)
Homemade pulleys for camshafts
272/10.1 camshafts
Double valvesprings
T6 aluminium retainers.
Bronze guides

well.. almost to much to list.

chassi is uprated with uniballs everywhere

and bilstein coilovers(homemade in front)
330x32mm brakes in front with brembo 4 pot calipers

std brakes in rear.

Interior got two lightweight recaro´s

feel free to browse around in my photobucket.
and questions are welcome.

Well,, i´m back..

thought i´d post some pics of my job on the 'head'

starting with standard compared with my work:

then on to exhaust ports:

full view of chamber:

Example of finish in exhaust.

Then i mounted bronze guides:

Freshly miragrinded seats and shimmed head:

As you can see the combustionchambers are 'opened' around the valves.
A must do with my big valves.

I have ordered 35mm inletvalves from Risse in Germany
On the outlet there are stainless 31mm

I will grind off the 'quencharea' at the sides of the chambers soon, but i´m in pain of.. what do you call it?
Tennis Elbow?

You've got homemade coilovers in the front? Which coilover converson set did you use? And which coilovers do you have in the back?

Yeah, tennis elbow lol. Too much work.

What power are you aiming for, because 1680cc injectors are pretty big, i'm guessing towards 800bhp capable?

Yes i made my coilovers myself with coils from this company:http://www.sellholm.se/
I ripped a couple of old Volvo coilovers for the threaded pipe etc etc.
The shocks are Bilstein set up for Corsika, they´re old as fook,, *lol*
When Opel were competing with Kadett GSI in WM.

The rear coilovers are from Golf 4 , with coils from Sellholm, the Shocks are adjustable in rear.
They´re made of Magnesium, weights 1.2 kg without coils..

I´m going to run on E85 fuel as it´s 'racefuel' in the local pump.
therefore the injectors are quite large, an E85 engine can run up to 40% more fuel for the same power on Petrol.
I would have been satisfied with 1200cc injectors, but i didn´t find anyone.

Ohh.... so many replies.

i´m glad you find my car interesting.

as we speak i´m done with plastics fenders and bonnet, ready to paint.
Me and my mate are beginning to design my turbo exhaust manifold(www.petergproduction.com) in the coming week.
Will update then with som pictures of progress.

Hi..

It´s really simple.
E85 fuel runs so much 'richer' in fuel/air ratio, and as we know fluid isn´t compressable.
This engine is a highcompression setup as i´m running 10.5-1 in compressionratio.

And E85 fuel burns slower so at high rpm´s you can get 'hydrolock'.
well,, not really.. but when you compress it so hard it can be problem to keep air in the mixture and you got unburnt gasses and junk remaining till nest cycle.

Todays 'work'

a little taperoll and a box of pipes.

A sat for a while at my friends peterg´s workshop and started to mockup my forthcoming exhaustmanifold.

I also ent away to my garage and tested my 'distributor shutoff'.
Only have to drill a couple of holes in it for the trigger.

Cheers
/Patrick
