hi insaneswede, your work is awesome i jus been sat here reading on and on through your thread, ur amazing, i am currently attemptng to convert my mk1 astra gte into 4wd and i am building (slowly) a c20let for it.. how did you get on converting your car to 4wd? what floor pan did you use? i am aquiring a whole floor pan in two weeks from a calibra 4x4 turbo, and thus the project will begin, i was under the impression that no1 would have done this before to a mk1 but i am very mistaken and i am happy that you have.. and there are more i believe.. ur car is cool. And i hope mine can slowly follow in its footsteps, what running gear are you using? and is ur t/box locked for permanent 4x4? which is what i wish to do.. as i will be running f28 with calibra turbo running gear, prop, diff t box etc etc. But i believe i will need the locking plate kit.. do you of who sells this kit? or better still.. who fits it too? Again.. Good work, very good work. I Admire your work i really doo...

Hello Mutlow,, cool you find my work interesting.
As i am running Toyota tranny i haven´t locked anything up.
About the floorpan.. i´m using Astra MK1 floor.
only small mods made to it to accept the calibra rear axle/beam.
I have welded the beam solid into rear to make car more rigid.
This allows me to use the std tank with small modifications,std backseat and a cool feature is that std fuelgauge is working as it should.
I had this plan,, the car should only look like an nicely styled std Astra MK1 when having a quick look.
But when taking closer look the car reveals a lot of mods.

I made the porting and choosed a little bit on the setup too(camshafts and unplugging the airsystem,bigger pipes and throttle.)

Dynoed friends Audi today.
Wen´t all ok, the ticking sound you hear in the movie is from injectors, sound magnified in plenum. sounds really bad.
But no worries. engine is screaming for more boost.
Turbo wen´t choked,, littel bit of disapointment,, we wanted to see 800whp.
We could have adjusted the cams to gain 15hp, but there was no use.
the curve is so wide and verifying to lastyears dyno we acheived 100hp at 8000rpm and the turbo spooled 700rpm earlier and held on 600rpm longer.
this makes an sick engine. like an std engine but really really pissed off.

and to crack a hole into an old myth..
that turbo engines need bigger exhaustvalves than NA engines..
This Audi has 0.4mm smaller exhaustvalves than std, but work was done to unshroud the area around the valves.

Todays tip!
Q8 F1 10W/50


Been testing many oils over the years.
My favorite for many years was Quaker State 20W/50
But this oil sorted out problems with revs above 8k(bearing spun) and oilvalve getting stuck on NE/XE/LET engines.
But got an new experiance today.

I had LiquiMoly 5W/40 for braking in engine, not a bad oil at all.
but funniest thing, when having fillercap loose on the valvecover the cap 'rattled' with liqui,, crankhouse gasses puffing.
Now with my favorite the cap just were sucked down..

That in my book means that pistonrings sealed a lot better.
this can just be good!

Yuck!!
i really don´t like bodywork like filler,bondo etc etc..

Started to work on bonnet today.. really a lot of work.
it went open in about 40Mph, a lot of cracks to fix in glassfibre..

As it opened while driving? That's scarey.. Try it at 80 mph in the outside lane on the motorway..lol

Any damage to the roof?

yes opened while driving.
but it was about 2 years ago.
no damage to the roof, but the window broke.. you can see early movies when driving it 4wd the windsheild were a mess
Glassfibrebonnet, was the fact that saved my roof.
But the bonnet cracked a bit at some places.. nothing serious.. but you know. you have to sand down through gelcoat to build a new layer, and then strengthen the bonnet from underneeth.

But almost done..
painted it satine black again yesterday. i´ll let it be like that for a couple of month´s, the bondo needs to sink/settle down a little before topcoat.

Small update but very important(to me anyway)

I also got the stickers for trunk, but the satineblack area around the window has to be repainted first.
Waiting for the snow to melt so the car can stand outside when painting inside garage.
a couple of weeks or so.
It´s only 1 degree celsius warm outside and still about 40-50cm´s of snow maybe more.
yesterday it melted hard thou.. was 7 degree warm.

And,, the Dog is born.. 8weeks until delivery.

Well,, couldn´t resist, had to finish stickertuning,, now the car is as fast as an GTE evo VIII should be *lol*



So,, i masked the car up quite quickly and sprayed on some paint.
1st spray went bad,, washed that one off(waterbased colour)
waited an hour to get heat in garage.
then it went good.
