nono.. it´s red..
it´s red as std would never change that.
but!! it differs from std,, still red thou![]()
This is the goal,, little bit altered thou.
thinking of Carbonfake on hood and totally black wheels.
Just to get a little bit more 'racelook'
And as i have made the body wider than on this pic i can lower the supspension about 2cm to get the look i want![]()
there´s the colour... same red.
It´s this colour
I wanted to have me some fast n furious look for a couple of years ago when choosing this red...
nahhh just joking..
a friend of mine has an Supra and on the evenings almost when sun sets.. its a very 'bloodred' colour.
And when sun is shining it´s very very red,,, not almost orange like std.
i love this car,, made it through your build diary amwzing the work thats gone into this,,
beleive me when i say that´s all the stuff in this thread might just be about 20% of whats done.
Example:
when mending the rust the 2nd time i had plans for 4wd, and made some chassistrenghtening.
and i must say they were well needed.
Now when repainting the body thar car stands on three jacks.
two at fron and one at rear.
and the rear one stands at rear rightwheel. not really an optimal location.
but,, the body stands rigid and the doors opens as on an Mercedes,, the car does NOT flex.
i wanted this stability even when not having an roll cage.
Great work, i know what you mean about the vauxhal red, mine was flame red, and its a very orangey red, but mine was sprayed ford performance red, a much truer 'blood' red, much like yours.
keep up the good work![]()
Cracking thread and very imformative too. should be very impressive once finished.![]()
Thanks all by the way
today i have almost painted the rest.
Only one failure, around the right lock there probalby became a little bit too much paint, and the door stood almost on the floor while painting it(it´s -25 celsius outside, the floor in basement becames quite cold) so it became a drop running down the door for about 3cms, well well.
Not bad for an amateur and not in an tempered paintbox.
Just wetsand it and polish afterwards and it should look fine.
it´s quite shiny
and a small teaser of new look.(hood may be painted or foliated with carbonlook, haven´t decided yet)
maybe i´ll cut holes in the hood to vent out some heat, i dunno yet.
Paint job looks great! Look forward to seeing this thing back on the road!![]()
Brian Sidebotham.
Looking very nice mate
Just a quick question on the toyota transmission. You mentioned earlier about it being quite wide, how much wider than an f28 is it roughly? I plan to fit this transmission in my cavalier turbo, I'd like the output from the Toyota transfer box to be in the same place as the output from the Vauxhall transfer box, do you think I will have problems or will the extra width of the cavalier allow me to get away with it?
Cheers.

it´s about 4cms wider to the left. that´s when having the propshaft in the middle of the car.
in my situation i coulden´t move it more to the right as the fenbelt for alternator almost as it is std in an Astra hits the beam. elseway i would have moved the engine a bit to the right to make more room for left wheel.
but i have modded the 'lid' on the gearbox a bit, now i can aaalmooost have fully steering to the right.
With lower tireprofile i could have steered fully.
Those cms is wider gears you know,, can really handle torque![]()
That doesn't sound to bad then, with the extra width of the cavalier it shouldn't be as tight...... hopefully anyway, although given you can pick up a gt4 for £500 these days it'll be an interesting project! Cheers for the info
Have you considered a front LSD for yours? Do you feel it needs one?

Les,, i have consider it yes, but haven´t found any money for it just yet.
But i really don´t know if i need anyone, rear torsen makes the car a little bit rwd like.
and that´s fun
Otherwise, i have started a cleanup work underneeth the hood.
i´m trying to get som finish so it doesn´t look to bad.
Like so.. done painting
just a polish when colour has dried up a little bit more(to get those dust duts out of the paint)
I can´t take it out for a photosession either,, too much snow,, well well.
I can start modify my exhaust a little, i got this 3.5" damper left unused, i figure i might place it under car.
But floor has to be modified.
But wouldn´t it be cool with an almost silent sleeper?
almost done painting BTW,, i have decided on the hood yet.
But it´s leaning toward red anyway(with vent´s on it)
oh cant wait to see it, looking forward to it being back on the road i bet !!!
Foook me......!!!!
tested the launchcontrol today.
Just rpm lock at 5500rpm
full throttle and let it bounce on limiter,, took about 2 seconds to reach 0.8bar with no retard.
Have never seen anything like it on any other engine with this turbo,,,, Sick!
Patrick, quick question about your block, have you had the liners wedged?

Ashtal, Sorry,, Liners?
The sleeve's/liners are the tube which separates the water jacket from the cylinder bore. The wedges would sit between the casting of the block and the sleeve's/liners to add strenght. Just wondering!?

Ashtal means these in your water galleries.
I remember you once saying you had concreted it or someone said that, was it concreted it or have you used alloy wedges ?
Nice one jonboy. I can see what you mean now. What block is that from anyway!?!
