Nova Rebuild

Well, it's that time of year again and the Nova is off the road for its third and possibly final rebuild.

Have had the car in the garage for approx. a month now, but a high workload has led to relatively little progress. A few pics to keep you happy though

The aim this winter is to install a rollcage, upgrade the brakes and fit a LET.

First up the mandatory strip down - what i had to begin with:

And what was left after a mornings work:

Decided to junk the dash as it weighs too much, plus i like the idea of a dash bar with just a rev-counter and boost guage

Next i need to purchase a hinge pin remover so i can remove the doors. The loom is all but removed from the car and 'bay, but the original central locking and electric window looms run through the doors so need to remove these to get to the final pieces. Hopefully this will also aid in the rollcage fitting too.

Said rollcage:

Purchased second hand from EuroRallye (www.eurorallye.co.uk) - excellent service!

Spent twenty mins with the angle grinder just to remove a few pieces of the original gussets which were still tacked onto the cage:

Looking better. The whole cage will be shot blasted and then powder coated white eventually.

No major progress to report other than this, will be removing the engine this weekend so will put a few pics up when it's out.

No i sold those on after a few months to down size to fifteens again!

These are the ones we are on about:

Cav Gsi rims, sprayed anthracite with a polished lip, also had the centres smoothed!

Shell is now completly stripped, i'll be moving it from my garage to the lockup between Christmas and New Year. First job will be to get it on the swivel jig to start the work on the underside. Everything looks reasonably healthy, although the chassis legs could do with a little tlc.

Wiring Loom will be tackled over Christmas:

Turrets have also arrived

Yeeha! That is stripped to funk!

Go turrets too. Proper chassis mod is that.

Got a couple of shots of the underneath as well.... not easy when i'm back on crutches again!

Turrets should be a good mod - will integrate them with the cage for added stiffness

Was looking at your thread yesterday Craig, are you planning on running with your rear bench seat as it looks as though your turrets may cause clearance issues?

Cant decide on seats or stripped. Likelyhood is, if seats stay in they will be purely cosmetic. I dont take passengers (in the back) anyway. I might just cut some recesses in the seat back so they will fit if need be.

I cant believe how many Nova builds are being under taken by MIG users now.

When I first started on this forum, Novas were few & far btween & you were an outcast if you didnt have a big block XE or LET.

I guess people have come to their senses...... How things change!
