as you can see, the old ones had served their time, they used to be the same colour as the new ones!
the new ones also have the split thigh roll bit, supposed to be more comfy
will be nice to actually have some un flattened foam to sit on too on the way to germany etc, again but hey i dont have much in built cushioning
fitted my old ones into brians seat just 'cos he was snowed under at work so didnt make it tonight, and i think it will annoy him tidied up after that, and then went home cos its freezing
doesnt quite go with the orange, but he does need some cushion for scrutineering believe it or not!
on a slightly more interesting note, the driveshafts are on order, and might be here by the
18th , depending on the heat treatment plant, if not after christmas, can't wait! |
It looks like he's in danger of making progress with the Manta... SHOCKER!!!!!

| Re: Lee's Garage righty, actually did something constructive towwards geting the nova back together tonight, even if it is piggin' cold!
my driveshafts should be ready in a week or so, and i already have the cv joints, but needed to sort out attaching them to the output flanges, so went to a bolt supplier to get some 3/8 UNF bolts that fit the flanges really well and so locate the cv as well as attach them, but they didnt have the exact length i needed, so a bit of cutting and grinding later
one of said flanges
you can see they are really nicely machined so they retain the bolt head to stop it turning, so i put the bolt in from the back so i can just unbolt them easily if it ever becomes neccesary...
finished item
then fitted some new ball joint pinch bolts and played with the corner weights so its all ready for the shafts when they turn up, cant wait! |

| Re: Lee's Garage very smart, do the flanges sit flush with each other or is there a recess to take the stress off the bolts? only wondering cuz it will make it nice, clean, easy job if ever you have to remove the gearbox (fingers crossed it wont have to be removed as much this time round) lol

| Re: Lee's Garage its more the 3/8ths bit tbh benn, makes them a nice fit in the flanges, could have drilled them out, but they are made of granite spec steel so hard to machine
stuart, no recess, just flat to flat , hence i got high tensile bolts, they'll be fine i suspect, because of the good fit described above, not planning to remove the box though so not too fussed how clean a job it would be to remove them
and yes, they are pretty serious looking, dont think i'll ever break one anyway, just need some shafts now |

| Re: Lee's Garage righty, much fun at the garage today, had matt j up with his celica of death for some investigation into how to make his new brakes fit, not as easy as he made it sound as it turns out
he then got some sound deadening out while i fitted my drive flanges, which meant i could finally fill the box with oil, which was fun through small funnel with very cold gear oil
and then in my quest to make sure its completely ready for the shafts, i filled the dry sump tank with millers, primed the pump whipped the plugs out and turned it over as it has been sat for ages, and then even made it run!
great to hear it rev again after being sat there for so long, and with that in mind i let it fully warm up to get rid of the condensation build up seems pretty happy though so thats good
then Brian even turned up!
so we played with his new alternator and v6 starter motor, which fit pretty well after we had swapped the pully to multi vee and brian borrowed my old adjuster, i think a new one will be milled up before long though, even found the time to take a couple of photos!
you can see the fit is pretty good now he's milled the bell housing a bit, he's going to weld up the clutch release lever hole as he's going hydraulic and it will make the
belll housing stronger,
after that we whipped his gearbox apart just to have a look, looks pretty good and the guy
seems to have been honest when he said it had recently been rebuilt which is nice, was good fun too as neither of us has stripped one of these before so it led to some head scratching and nervousness
all back together and still functioning though so its fine
so all in alll a fun day, if a little miserable on the weather front |

| Re: Lee's Garage just need to fit the shafts when they turn up, which could be next week, the guy said he would try for the 18th as he was having a batch heat treated to be done for then as he had promised a customer and would try to get mine in with that batch, if not it will unfortunately be after the xmas break, but once they turn up, as long as i measured them right, it will be back on the road
still to get some 15s to give me a bit more lock, but it is certainly enough at the mo to be driveable, albeit with a three pointer or two round the tightest hairpins cant wait tbh, hearing it again today got me all giddy, or maybe that was the fumes from matt j's sound deadening |
