Totally gutted for you mate, was going to ask what you were doing this Friday and now I know.

Were off over there on the 31st August if you fancied that.

Hope its not too bad, were you revving it rather hard at the time ?

4k, thats whats so annoying, was just cruising along, then bang, must nbe a component failure, not looking forward to seeing how the piston looks if the plug looks like that though might bring the 1800 build forward though...

cheers mate, much appreciated, tommorow will bring more pics...
on a lighter note, laser cut plates are finally here, so will be making the tie bar kits sooner rather than later

crap !

but it could be worse, it could have let go on the ring itself and you could be taking the engine home in a bucket inside the tow truck !

cheers for the comments peeps, it will be back dont worry...
ok, so time for carnage pics!!
somewhow found the motivation to get up there and strip it this morning....

so, as we can see, bit of a mess, there was even swarf on the throttle butterfly!
looks likely that a valve failed and fell into the cylinder, whacking the plug and then snowballing the rest, quite why it failed i dont know, they are one piece valves so the head shouldnt have fallen off(which is kinda well known)and none of the springs or caps are broken, could have been a lifter gone solid, but whatever, its ****ed so no point in ifs or buts, more bits pics

how i left it

so, basicvally the plan is to build a 1800 now, not gonna bother trying to stick a 1600
back together before hand, would be a waste of cash, so watch this space for the new engine...
in the meantime, will be making my tie bar kits so if you're interested let me know

and, for sale, one set of SBD 304 degree 11.9 mm lift cams for the 1600, will work with hydraulics

offer around £200 minus the verniers

very much so yup and yup, corsa engine

andy, when i saw the plug in belgium, i kinda knew it was gonna be fubar, there's about 2 mm from the top of the piston to the plug tip @ TDC, so if it had benn given a whack by something, you know its curtains, onnwards and upwards as they say, probably rip the block to bits tommorow

that sucks.

The joys of pushing big power threw a small engine.

Jeez that is bad

Tuned engine or not its just unlucky, certainly not worth mincing about what caused it, just rip it out and break it up.

Roll on smallblock 1.8 power

you're not wrong, i'm kinda leaning towards a valve seat failure, but it matters not, gonna find a small block 1800 soon as...
