    Re: Lee's Garage

it was temporary to switch to having two when the third billet stripped its threads, cant nut and bolt through as the gearbox casting has snapped off, so no where to bolt through, i think having the two bolts in the way i did isn’t as good as having the two other bolts in because of where they sit in relation to the way the torque will be applied, so hopefully heli coiling the original two bolts will be strong enough

Ah Christ didn't notice it had snapped the lobe off. Can it be welded back on?

    Re: Lee's Garage

Oh, it's done that! I've fixed that with Brian before. We screwed the bolt in and TIG'd ali over the top of it and unscrewed the bolt once it had cooled down. Wasn't great, but it did the job. Was a complete ball-ache.

The main strength like you say is in the other two mounting points really. Helicoil should fix that up!

Cheers dude! It is more peaky, I think I went a bit over the top with the inlet ports (Probably why the torque is relatively low). I will scan the graph in and bung it up, it's a pretty nice curve though - looks like it'll drive pretty good. It starts really working at around 4,500rpm.

Can't wait to get in it now and give it some beans to see what I'll need to do first. Probably sort out the suspension geometry! lmao

Slightly better vid really from Matt's phone:

Oh joy! Bet that was fun!

I'm sure a helicoil, and the other two bolts will do the job fine!

lol, it's a shame the video's don't really get the sound right because it really does sound great. It has a lovely throaty sound to it and now it has some ignition in it, it really sounds crisp. But you get the idea from the videos!

Will try and get a few more vids with the sound right when it's at Brands Hatch soon.

    Re: Lee's Garage

righty, so went up this evening and attacked the gearbox lmao
first removed the entire mount to gain access, still not exactly roomy what with the flat floor etc

see the broken bit there then it was a case of drilling the holes out, again access making it a night mare, could have dropped the engine i guess but i couldn't be arsed! so, hole drilled, then use the tap that comes with the kit

then fit the insert, with a bit of loc tite

    nice shiny new threads…

arse about refitting the mount, job done, thank god!

by that time matt and brian showed up, so we had a curry, lovely!

so, fingers crossed just some mapping runs and we’re done for brands!

Cheers dude, certainly has a good growl to it.

Got to fit some new seats next, fit some safety film to the windows, 3ltr catch tank and a few other bits and then I can get someone over to start looking at scrutineering it! Oh, much wider mud guards now too!

Yet tonight, just went up and had a curry! lol. Checked the max oil temp from the 5 hours of rr - 114'C so pretty darn good.

Will try and get the seats in before Brands, but I'm now skint and I have to insure + tax it yet.
