Just a thought with the slipping spindle. Can you not pip the spindle with a small drill so the grub screw will sit in the hole?

that's the plan! might need a different grub screw if the bottom is flat, last resort is a roll pin

Loving that V6, what sort of revs you got planned to it in this guise and for the final engine. Didn't think the V6's liked hi revs too much so will a lot of internal mods be required?

    Re: Lee's Garage

I specifically picked the 2.5ltr V6. It's got a very strong bottom end. I know what a Vauxhall engineer took a 2.5ltr too, but I'll just cap it where power starts to roll off. The cams are probably going to limit it to around 7k or so I suppose. Hopefully over next Christmas I'll put together a better engine with some good cams and internals. At least the dry sump and what-not will be proved (or not! lol) by then.

    Re: Lee's Garage

I will be very interested in how this performs. I always thought the V6 could be a good engine, but VX saddled it with a terrible std gearbox with very wide ratios, a restrictive inlet and exhaust and a massive flywheel. They seemed to be trying to make it a low down torque slugger (as proved byt them then increasing the capacity to 2.6 and then 3 litres) If they just letting it rev properly would have been much better, but that can't have been the type of power delivery they were after. The engine has been crying out for TB's, decent cams and a decent exhaust with proper headers. Glad someone is taking it on. I know how good TB'd 4 pots sound so the V6 should be something else.

    Re: Lee's Garage

I don't blame you Lee! lol

AJ, That is exactly right. The 2.5ltr has a good bottom end (only 79mm stroke), but the top end is purely setup for towing something heavy! The flywheels are rediculous, hence I have a much lighter one, along with a twin plate 7.25" clutch.

It really needs larger valves, LOTS of headwork (I did that bit), cams + bodies. Good exhaust manifolds are a must, but anything other than stock is better! lol Oh, and a different water pump is pretty much essential too IMO.

Yeah it's pretty wide, shorter than a 20XE though. Should suit the Manta quite well. It's not the lightest of cars! lmao

That V6 looks yummy. Will be interesting to see what sort of power it puts out with some TBs and some nice exhaust manifolds.
Teeth? LUXURY! When I was a child we ate by putting rocks in our mouth and jumping up and down.
