    Re: Lee's Garage

it may well get a remap yes, not sure if it'll be before september though

as for head ccing, yeah basically you have the right idea, you can seal the valves in with grease so you dont have to lap them, ideally you would dry build the head and have a piston in the bore at tdc(grease the rings and mock up gasket to help them seal) then with the head in place fill the top up via the plug hole, this takes everything into account including your valve cut outs
then work out your swept volume( pi r squared times stroke) add the cc figue you get to that and then divide the whole lot by the cc figure, gives you your static cr

    Re: Lee's Garage

you can then take a cc of the head off the car using a bit of perspex to seal the chamber up, so you can equalise all the chamber volumes, and easily work out how much you need to remove skim-wise to get your desired cr

    Re: Lee's Garage

even if i wanted to, if i needed too i dont think i would be able to skim it much due to lift on the cams! lol

    what CC was you head?

    X18XE1 & Z18XE:
bore: 80.5 mm, stroke: 88.2 mm, capacity: 1796 cc
    Compression ratio: 10.5:1
    Max power: 85 kw @ 5400 rpm
    Max torquw: 170 Nm @ 3400 rpm

    and
swept volume( pi r squared times stroke)

    Pie(3.142)x r(40.25)squared x stroke(88.2)

    pie x 1620.06 (2dp) x 88.2

    pie x 142889.51 (2dp)

    448958.85mm3 (2dp) = swept volume
    44895.89cm3

    is that right! lol

    Re: Lee's Garage

yeah those figures are right, i think my head was 48cc as stock but not 100% on that, i then skimmed off 45 thou, which is loads, and i had the block decked a bit too to get to 12.2-1

    Re: Lee's Garage

right il finish my inlet porting this week, and get cracking (still awaiting shims from piper to turn up mind!)

    stock is 10.5:1

at a guess, after piston cuts out, and head work, with a skim it might not bring it back to 10.5:1

how much of a difference to power would upping it to say 11.0:1 and 11.5:1 etc etc?

i couldnt tell you a figure for the different compression, but tbh you wont want to be going anywhere above 11.5 on stock piston crowns anyway

oh right, well id think if i could just keep it 10.5:1 that would be fine

was interested what real difference it would make that was all, for what reason couldnt you do that (again out of interest what would happen)

the cylinder pressures would get to the point that the piston collapsed, same as in the 1600, you'd need some omegas or similar after that, i think 10.5 should be achievable, you can deck the block a little bit too and gain some power by reducing the squish clearance, needs careful mock up measuring though! remember the rods will stretch at higher revs, so add .5mm to any clearance you're measuring

    Re: Lee's Garage

i know what you mean about decking the block, then modding the pistons, but i dont think il be doing that due to my clearance issues!

what spring rates are you running lee?

i know, must be bad when you get to like 35 or so huh?
and yes it is panther black, just ordered some new brakes and suspension for it, they'll be here in a week or so, let the subtle mods commence!

    Re: Lee's Garage

so, got the new car to the garage today, did an oil change and filter service, air and fuel, then got rid of the unsightly tow bar and some of the tack badging
    before:

    after, much better!

needs some better headlight bulbs though...

and then when the bits turn up, suspension and brakes
oh, did find time to remove the driveshaft from the nova too

then predictably bent the man tool trying to remove the drive flange, so gave up and came homelmao will get the diff out somehow on saturday...

dont worry i dont drive with them on benn, was just for the pic, and i think i have broken something in the diff with my cv woes, probably at brands when i repeatedly blew them to bits at full chat round clearways, giving the diff some odd loadings(and trying to spit me into the pit wall!!)
