I have just done the same by putting a new front cross member because it had some rust! Seems too be a common place. See you have got some good plans for it! Keep us posted.

Looks a good start, but id say get a sealed box for that battery. Otherwise if you end up on the roof you'll be leaking battery acid all over your passenger

Sounds like a good start on the engine, might be pricey to do all the sensors tho. Next stage from that would be rings and barings, crank regrind, etc...

depends what you want to spend, how long you want it to last, what mileage its done

Doesn't a battery need breathing? or have those sealed boxed vent openings? (which would defeat the purpose...)

if the vent is at the you'd be ok while upside down.... or vent it via a pipe outside.

not sure tbh.

Or put it in the boot
Good job, so far I really want to build a frankencar, but I was thinking instead of the oh so common corsa/nova let conversions I might do something different. Not sure what though.

Good project, you've started doing it properly

It really depends on your budget. If your going to tune it, i wouldn't bother with much for the time being. Get the engine serviced, get it in and running and have some fun for the time being.

If your looking to tune it in the future, teh engine can easily be removed again and the uprated parts fitted. But if its not broken at the moment, leave it. Just give it a good cleanup and service.

What brake setup are you going for?

is the strengthening kit needed?... im building a corsa turb and i wasnt gonna bother

If its any help my plan for engine is

Get head reconed, cleaned and valve seats etc
clean up block, new rings, honed if needed.
new shells
New gaskets all round
waterpump
oilpump (not really needed)
xe inlet cam
new lambda sensor
new coolant temp sensor
new alternator
plugs
rotor arm
cap
leads
regal lightweight flywheel
red injectors
webber adjustable fuel reg

May aswell get the engine sorted before you fit it, then you can give it some helmet and not worry about it

Nice work in progress happening. I take it this will be a functional car to be used as opposed to a pretty car to look at?

firstly about the battery tray......i really hope i dont end up upside down!! LOL but i can always get a nice ali cover made i suppose!

as for the strengthening, whilst the engine is out i dont see any point in not doing it!! also i think with the condition of the front end it wouldnt have been very strong if alot of bhp was put through it! so i would do it, im also in the progress of seam welding it all too.....it probably dont need it but may aswell do it whilst its out ay!

the car is going to be used if thats wot you mean, i currently have a pug106 gti show car that ive currently been taking care of for a few years, i wanna hit the tracks now tho!

as i said previous, i intend to get about 250bhp for the time being then go for some big power once ive regained some cash!! i wasnt going to replace all sensors, just CTSand crank sensor. just need to get the conversion kit etc tho!

hopefully some more pics 2nyt when i seam weld!

Just get the turbo reconned, don't bother with so called "hybrids"

I'd put new rings and bearings in whilst its out, also new stem seals and lifters, and a new oil pump, rollers, tensioner, cambelt.

Also, a new ICV would be a good buy imo

uprated fuel pump and some bigger injectors you'll need for more power, along with an intercooler.

here are the pics of last nights work

firstly welded up both front engine mount mountings

then removed the old airfilter bracket as i will make a new one that is more suitable as it will have a cone filter on it

here is a bit of the seam welding on the passenger side chassis

put a bit of prima on it to prevent corossion until its panted properly

and the engine thats going in it

hope you like it more to come after the weekend!

right just to keep you updated......................ive spent quite a few hours this weekend sorting out the engine bay, it went a bit like this...lol

firstly had to get the engine bay into some sort of state to paint!! removed all rust spots, removed top coat of paint and de greased lookin a bit like this

then obviusly most stuff was removed but the things that couldnt easily be removed were masked up!

then a coat of etch prima............

but a tiny problem................it reacted in a couple of places........so sand back down and repaint!!!

then a few coats of high build prima gets it lookin like this.........

leave overnight to dry and then flat down very early in the morning ........and ready for the main colour...................."RED" not gunna bother changing the colour of this car, too much hassle.....been there dun that type thing!!

so there it stays until tomorrow night when a few coats of laquer will be applied! my first major attempt at spraying and if i do say so myself it looks the tits!!

looks good. nice effort . but on a list of "things that cant be easily removed" a clutch cable wouldnt be on the list. must have taken 5 minutes to mask it all up, its only one clip holding it on, lol

keep us updated,

you can use your existing clutch cable but use the throttle cable from the donor car
