    Couple of little mods:
First is electric levelling head lights. I've had a pair of brand new headlights sitting arond for a year now. They were bought by a friend as a random buy at a steam fair for £1 each! They were odd as they were electric levelling type, no place to fit the manual knobs. One day of messing around in my parts bins I found a random motor for a headlight. Something in my brain clicked and I tried it on one of the headlights, it fitted! Great, bet I'll never be able to find another one of them. Checked the number on EPC and it said it was a comon as muck Mk3 Cavalier one. Quick trip to the local scrappie and another was bagged.

My mk2 doesn't have the wiring, but the recently purchased GTE does! Quick look at the dash next to the immobilser thingy revealed what looked like a Mk3 Astra/ Cav levelling swtich-sized hole. Plugged one in and it lit up with the sidelights. Good start.

Next was the relatively simple job of swapping the headlights. Took about half an hour, also renewed a couple of them plastic clips that had gone brittle after 14 years.

    All plugged in:

Amazingly, it all worked first time. Nice little bit of spec there. Total cost, less than 3 quid. Mine has headlight protectors, so they should last a while!
Next was a phone kit. My other cars already have them, so it's a bit annoying if the phone rings when I'm in the GTE, as I have to ignore it really. Trouble is, the bracket you can buy that doesn't require any holes to be drilled is a bit intrusive of the indicator stalk. A bit of quick thinking by Tom Williams and myself saw a quick, neat solution:

Nice and neat, and totally invisible when not in use. Big thanks Tom!
    They're there, in their room.

Love the 2p in the coin slot!

Dan... just read the thread through. Gates' belt kits are the best you will get from a factors & if my source is correct they make them for GM & VAG amongst others. A friend of mine who was a GM dealer mechanic (he is very good & knowledgable) says he wouldnt even consider fitting any other make of belt kit. GM belts often have Gates' logo on them somewhere.
Maybe this has been sorted but I thought I'd add my findings. SWEET car btw.

Nice little mod there with the headlight levelers.

Oh yeah, the whole fleet ONLY has Vaux/ Gates belts and genuine rollers, no fear there.
the belt has not made any noises since, although I've not checked the rollers since. It's done so many hard miles since I reckon it's OK now.

I still do so if anyone you know needs consultation on handsfree you know where I am.

the phone holder was a joint idea between Dan and I, he wanted no cradle but somewhere to put the phone and plug it in for handsfree and charging

we looked around, and I popped out the tape holders and trim, had a gander and the plan was hatched.

Nothing yet. I don't think the GTE has the connectors under the seats for the heaters. I'll have a look.

I do still have that beam, yes. I can't imagine a boot it WON'T fit into!

Dan the GTE doesnt have the connectors under the seats like you say. Instead, if you acess the car loom harness in the passenger footwell, along the top where the side repeators plug in seperatly, there are some other unused ports. The switches activate a live to these points. You can either test to see which ones go live with the switches on, or unblot the harness from the car and look to see which ports the black/yellow and black/red run too.
