Re: Nova SRI - Long term project

I was at the Total vauxhall show at crail raceway on sunday.

Headed to the showcase cinema outside coatbridge and met up with rickisgrate, Cmac86, Farrar cav, zucsri, and a few others, then convoyed to crail, and met up with the rest of the mig lot.
Was a really good day. Weather stayed nice (even got slightly sunburnt) and the banter was great!!

Was a very good turnout, and the standard of the cars was impressive. (Even the mig stand looked "proper with its info board/banner etc, well done neil105 for taking the time to make it, and melv fro sorting the info sheets etc)

I also won "Overall Best Modified / Car of the Show" and got a wee trophy Was a nice surprise, and is really goot to have all my time and effort put into the car noticed

After watching the shootout on the drag strip, i wished i had gone on myself, always next time i suppose

    Few pics:

    Trophy:

And 2nd place, Kev's MINT mk1 c20xe (stunning car and as clean if not cleaner than mine!!)

On the way home went to pizza hut with a load of the mig crew, what a laugh!
    Overall, a great day!

Re: Nova SRI - Long term project

    Update:

Well i put my name down for a trackday at knockhill on the 7th sept (im n the reserve list as its fully booked)

So did a bit of research regarding an oil cooler (just with the engine geting worked ALOT harder than road driving. So ive a mocal 13 row cooler ordered, a c20xe thermostat sandwich plate (and new gasket and fitting bolt) Then will need hoses made to suit.
Also ordered some 10W 60 fully synthetic millers oil.

2 new front tyres are also on there way (inner edge worn) so will have to get the tracking/camber/castor checked/setup as required. (im not sure what settings to run at the moment,so am looking into it (i know i want as much castor as i can get from the top mounts, to efectively create negative camber when cornering, reducing the need for as much "straight line" camber... excuse the non technical terms lmao.)

Re: Nova SRI - Long term project

top mounts fully back and head for about 1.5 degrees of camber.

Hopefully it will rain, cross your fingers it does or your tyres will get killed (I did over half a set of fronts in 2 hours last time....)

Re: Nova SRI - Long term project

I had spotted a member on astraownersclub offering discount photoshoots for this month only, So seing as the cars "finnished" (well for now) decided it would be nice to have some proper photo's of it.
The weather forecast for friday was poor, but after comming home from work (nighshift) phoned darren, and took a gamble.
Minus a few showers (yes i dried the car off each time) It was actually quite nice and made for some interesting pics.

    Heres a few of them:

    Cheers thanks alot craig

Right, i got my finger out today, and got back to the nova, Getting it ready for the trackday on monday...

First job was to get the tracking re-done. Left the house about 1. Arrived home after 2pm, and found the 2 new tyres i ordered last week had arrived.. typical!!

Boot build and stealth shelf removed, std parcel shelf fitted (wee bit of weight saving)

For the trackday you need a fire extinguisher. I have a powder one, but didnt want to go drilling holes in the floor, or the dash etc. So made up an alloy bracket that picks up on the front passenger seat fixings. (pics 2moro)

Next was a new oil filter and some millers 10W 60 fully synthetic oil.. not sheap, but better than a dead engine after some abuse
While on the ramp i noticed ive a 10mm tear in the pass outer C.V boot, so a new one is en-route from vauxhall, hopefully here thursday.

Re: Nova SRI - Long term project

Well, the trackday went really well. My toyo proxes held up to the abuse, oil temp/pressure was fine Car performed well on track, and other than the cv boot clip(yes the new one!! lmao) comming off at the end of the night, no problems.

Didnt get any pics, but another member got this (taken on the first few laps, so just me in the car as kenny wasnt there at this point)

Its surprising what i could keep up with, especially through the corners A set of 15" and semi slicks would make a massive difference.

At the start i was holding go revs around the hairpin in 3rd, but towards the end (hot tyres, looked like they were meltinglmao) I was wheelspinning, then it gripped and killed revs, so started going round in second, which made a difference

I dont understand folk who go to combe and do like 5-6 laps, My first outing at knockhill was a 4 hour saturday session and I did topside of 100 laps (130 miles) on the track!

Quiet open pitlane nights are the way forward!

Yeah, unfortunately i couldnt get out of work Not really, had thought about breaking it, as ive done what i wanted to, and dont really use it much now (As if i have out grown it, and its almost a burden as its alot of work keeping a car that clean etc) But i have parked it up in the garage for the time being.
May take it to the nurburgring in the spring and decide its fate then (my mate keeps telling me just to turn it in to a rally car, as i have the majority of the expensive bits on it already)
