Just back from a friends, where the welding is going on. We've 90% of the harry hockley kit fitted. Never realised how much it buffs up the lower arms section, plates on both sides and underneath!

Just the stitch welding to finish tomorrow, and chop the chassie leg, box it in for the Alternator clearance. Should have pictures tomorrow evening or saturday when its home.

    Sounds good Keith.

You manage to place the plates using the HH drawing or have to ask other people?
    it's a C20XE not a fookin Redtop FFS

The drawing is pretty useless to be honest. I just mostly guessed, and hope i'm right! The plates around the engine mounts and tie bars is simple. Its the other smaller bits that are hard to guess.

We've two left to do, and they are rectangle shaped with one end tapered, and they are the thickest metal, Anyone know where they go?

Also anyone any photos of the rear plates for the axel in place?

Actually any photos of any plates in would help, see how correct we were, chris?

the flat ones in the pic with the holes in are the sumguard mountings. i guess you wont need them. the angled plates are a strenghtening plate for the lower arm mounts. if you look at the floorplan from underneath you will see a diagonal from the arm mount , the HH plate efectivley makes that a box section. I will see if i can find a pic.

    Shows the angled plate

Shows a HH sumpguard in place

Shows the sumpguard mount, you are ment to weld a wheel nut to this plate and cout a hole on the chassis to recess it in to so you have a captive nut for the guard to mount to.

    Hope this helps.

Well I collected the shell today at around 11am. I'd been up on thursday and friday all day, to clean all the seams and help Willy Semple (Pete_SRI's dad) get on with the welding.

First off was the fitting of the Harry Hockley style Strengthning plates, supplied by Chris Astley (cheers!). We were both very impressed with the kit, it fitted perfectly and was very easily welded in.

Now that the shells back I set about removing the steering rack and the complete suspension and axel, as I now need to prime all the areas to prevent them rusting before the shell go's to Dudley to get Dipped and E-coated.

    Front end:

Stitch welded the chassie to bulkhead.

    Lower arms box section strengthened:

Chassie cut out and boxed in to give clearance for the alternator.

Showing box section, stitch welding and HH plate towards bottom lower panel.

HH Plate folded round and strengthened.

Tie bar sections strenghened with HH plate.

HH Plate and F28 (6 speed) mount welded on top.

    GSI top plates welded in.

Drivers side mount modifyed for clearance of the Turbo Intake pipe.

Inside car, where the chassie has been welded to the bulkhead.

    Birds eye View:

Rear Axel mounts strenghened with HH plate.

And last, but not least, the genius method of Delocking, showed to me by Mr Semple. Lead Filling!

Thats all for now folks - Going out to the garage now to prime the seams.

    Until the next update

Cheers folks, Primed the bay now to keep any rust away until June.

Looks nice and neat. A Little sealer will cover most the welds when it gets painted

Also modifyed the rear arches, so i removed the rear springs and shocks, put the wheels as far in as they went, and trimmed the arches accordingly. Hopefully i can run it nice and low without any problems (not as low as the below pic lol)

    funk!

i was gonna say that will surely rub where mine does going that low....
but even a lil higher and surely it still will be near the shock mount in the inner arch?
or are the soft stars thinner rims?

Softstars seem to be same as speedline fitment.

Its only that low to get max clearance, it will run the same height as NDZ (which was damn low too)

That really is a stupidly clean shell!

Glad to see your F28 mount is in the same place as mine:-

And yes you can run sofstars low at the rear as they are only 6" wide (aren't speedlines 7"?).
