Well i've started to clean bits and bobs up for getting the shell back home when its finished painted (about 6-8 weeks time)

I want to have the axel, wishbones, tie bars, fuel tank etc etc all coated for when i get the car back. Also i need to take the running gear with me to build onto the car for its return home, it will make it easier to move around and get secured on the trailer without scratching the new paint.

These are all the nuts, bolts and brackets that i want either chromed or zinc plated, some suggestions of the best place to send these to would be great.

This is everything i need powder coated at the moment, found a local place that should do a very good job.

These are the poweflex bush's from NDZ 1331, i was going to replace them, but you never see them so its not worth it!

These are the rear disc hubs, i cleaned with down with a wire brush on a drill, degreased them, and have given the lower section some paint. Think they turned out quite well, pity you dont see them when fitted!! lol

    Thats it for now folks

Yeah the doors, wings, bonnet and tailgate are all done. The zinc plateing is the bronzy goldy colour. Dont want to be fitting back rusty old bolts!

Would it be possible to source all stainless bolts?

Shell looks awesome Keith! Im jeleous LOL

I'm using new plated nuts, bolts and washers on mine, you could probably source stainless replacements although they would probably cost a few quid. I'm having all the bespoke metal fittings zinc plated, incidently the yellowey bronze finish will polish up to a silver shine, check the fitting on my carbs, they were zinc plated then polished.

    I used:

    http://www.collinschemicalblacking.co.uk/

    They were very good.

Excellent Dec, cheers for that! I'll send off the batch of nuts and bolts i have above, and see how they turn out, then get more done once the shells home and i can access what i really need to get done!. Do I have to prep them myself first? or will they chemically clean them for me?

Before you send off your bits for powder coating keith consider the mods to the front tie bar mounts

I had my alternator stabiliser bracket done and it was coated in a horrible hard black plastic coating, whatever the dipped it in stripped it right back. Personally I would send the bits to them stripped down to bear metal (wired mopped) and coated in light oil to keep the rust at bay. When they come back plated they will be a yellow / gold finish, if you spend a bit of time with some autosol they'll polish up to a silver shine, only a light polish though, don't cut through the plating! (the throttle linkage, fuel union and some other nuts etc are examples of the bits I had done below)

You'll find that a lot of the nuts and bolts can be replaced with M8,M10, M12. They are readily availble. i.e. the nuts on the antiroll bar brackets are just M10's.

I know what you mean though, you can't fit back rusty nuts and bolts... but it's very easy to get carried away lmao

You need to match the tensile strength of any nuts and bolts you replace; it's spec is usually stamped on the head of the bolt.. 8.8 12.9 etc (12.9 being stronger). Except that i think stainless bolts are rated differently because they're softer:

Presently we offer standard metric fasteners in A2 grade stainless steel, perfect for corrosion resistant applications and ideal for general motoring, motorcycling and marine duties. If you are replacing ordinary steel bolts then please be aware that A2 stainless steel has a slightly lower tensile strength than standard 8.8 grade plain carbon steel bolts.

(don't know how to condense the link, sorry)

Hope this is of some use.

Cheers for that! I'm sending all the main suspension bolts to get plated now. But would be nice to have some stainless ones to replace any others.

I'd get new bolts from GM & have them plated in high stress areas ie Tie bar brkt bolts & bottom arm (TCAs) bolts etc.

    Update,

Well to say that i'm very very pissed off, wouldnt even scrape the surface of the anger i'm feeling these past two days.

My doors arrived on monday, a swift phone call from Ade at the bodyshop to confirm that they are completely thrashed. I'm still cannot believe how this has happened!

When the doors were ordered from opel classic parts, we gave them strict instructions that they had to be extreamly well packaged and that i would not accept any doors with so much as a scratch on them.

    This is what arrived:

They came in cardboard boxes with no protection what so ever, no bubble wrap, no padding, and nothing written on the boxes to say they were fragile.

They agreed on monday to send more doors on receipt of these pictures. I sent them and got no reply, 6 phone calls later a fella answers to tell me he doesnt speak english, then tells me in perfect english that the girl who speaks english will be back tomorrow at 9am.

I just hope she's there tomorrow and that they actually listen this time and properly package the doors.

    Keith

Fook me, how did they get that wrecked, folded over corners

Certainly not what you expect to receive when you buy new doors.
