Shock horror!! the nova is alive!!

    woo hoo!
after a failed attempt at starting the nova last week i was abit miffed! could not get a spark, had power to the ecu and i had bled the fuel through but it just would not go!
found out from Rick i had to mod the dam distributer! found out on here i needed to get 10deg btdc! and that i should try actualy reading the mapping instructions lmao
gave it another bash last night! got it all powered up followed the start up procedure and still nothinglmao
in the end it was the fault i thought i had all along! coil was dead! taa to twag for the stand in coil! plumbed it in at voila! she started up
tho it was running very rough! like it was firing on 3 spose mostly because at this time there is no way of me knowing where the distributer is with regards to btdc! ah well at least its a start! going to try a different map at the week end and try and get it ticking over ok!
looks like this now with the acception of a mod'd header tank and nice new blues hoses going to it

    1.4bar = 356bhp :-)
is the engine newly built ? if so i wouldn't have it ticking over for too long while its not firing right , the upset to the bores/pistons and general in balance of smooth 1342 firing won't do it much good for the run-in period.
can't the ecu run without cam sensor ? mine can run batch fire without hall sensor or sequencial with , the fuel map is the same for both!

nope not run the turbo set up yet Lee cannot wait to see how it goes now! only ran it up for a 1 min max! didnt like its idle so turned it off! need to get some one who knows what they are doing on the timing side of things because tbh i dont have a clue! and as you say my engine has only ever ran on std managment for 20mins so its all basicaly brand new!! also flagged up a coolent temp sensor fault on the pc!
at least i have some where to work from now though!

i basically fooked my old new built engine by trying to run it (not drive) on a base map, i drove it to the mappers cus of the cost of transporting it there, to only of cost myself another rebuild 6mths later
its sort of satisfying to build it chuck it in and get it running ya self but with a unmapped ecu it ain't worth running it,

Its really is important to get the car up and running correctly fast to start run in. You could be washing the bores all the way through warm up and u wouldn't know it cos it'll sound ok,not be doing much good for the ring seal though.
What were you aiing for again Dan,350bhp?

all im aiming for is to get it running so i dont get all the way to mad from southampton for it to be a wasted trip! going to trailer the car up there and back!
as for power i dont know, i think im using the hybrid t3 for a while to see how it goes and then get a t34 set up on there. i have these steel rods by me feet also so once i get an eco tec block id like to build an engine for around 400hp.
all i have wanted from the car when i started out is to get it into the 12's which i think shouldnt be a problem if it all goes ok!

Neil when you started your car on tfs's map did it run fine from the off? ie tick over etc?

Pretty much yeah. the idle wasn't right until we used the T.F.S. b&q idle controller but after that all was fine. Have you selected the correct injectors etc?

Say if someone used a full map from TFS/Niel Adams, to run an engine in, with same cams, injectors ect, would there be any issues on a freshly built engine?

Best off asking Mark to be 100% sure. Very interesting though as i'm on autronic aswell and would rather have my engine ran in and any glitches sorted so as not to waste Marks time.

not to sure as of yet mate! id like it to be asap but as some one has mentioned i dont want to waste marks time! i need to get my self a boost controler sorted and it would be nice if i could get the tick over sorted and the timing bang on! im going to have another play with it 2moro. i know it ran/ ticked over fine on the std managment albeit with a leaking valve guide which is now sorted! only things ive changed since then is all new guides/ new valve springs and sbd valve spring caps and a commetic head gasket!
