shagged thrust bearing will wine when the clutch pedal is depressed. whining with pedal out in neutral is the gearbox end case bearings.
thats the fault of syncromesh, force is trasfered laterally along gear sets, forcing them outwards towards the passenger side of the gearbox. fix means replacing the bearing, cure means straight cut gears.
its a complete rebiuld situation. all the gears sit on a shaft that runs east - west looking at the engine bay. your replacing the bearing at far east.
I have a similar noise on me cav. Its only on overun and if you dip the clutch or just put yer foot under the pedal and lift it goes away! no other noises in othr states of running
will be replacing the release bearing even though its only 1500 miles old!
If the bearings gone it should be easy to find a bearing shop that can match it.
