Electric Steering / Electric Water Pumps

I was thinking of going this route on the cav turbo next due to might not be any room for the next turbo unit to have enough room for the afm pipe..at mo the pipe is kinked between turbo and afm.

I use the ribbed set-up so was wondering couldnt I just go to the astra gte16v pas set-up?...hence the pas pump would be lower on the block then and give more room for my turbo to have the afm pipe from turno to afm sitting un-squashed?

    Any info be appreciated.

You could use the lower mounted pump and early mk3 cav pipework so it would all line up. Mk4 astra electric pumps are easy to fit if you do go down that road though, 4 wires and a bit of welding on the pipes.

    Re: Electric Steering Pumps

The early pipework is pretty much the same on the rack end but has different ends for the lower mounted pump. The return from the rack is slightly different but its a rubber hose so shouldn't be a problem. So you would need an early pump, pump mount, bottom pulley, pipework and the earlier engine mount to replace the one with the late pump in it.

The mk4 astra electric pump doesn't need the rack changed over though. Its an electric hydraulic pump.

I fitted an electric pump for neatness but TBH id expect the old mechanical to outlast it.

To be fair Ive never seen an OE water pump fail if changed every 40k with the belt. Its a hangover from when they used them to tension the belt I suppose.
The V6 had them on the aux belt too, nice and handy.

    Re: Electric Steering Pumps

maybe slightly yes but is it worth the hassle tbh?

you would fork out for the pump all the pipeworl then need to find a shorter belt and blank the original hole , as frisco says if there changed regular they rarly fail, had a few noisy ones in th past myself but only one ever seized on me and that was my fault, should have changed it way sooner, was young tho lol

    Re: Electric Steering Pumps

Just the pump and the pipes really so you can cut and weld them to the ends of the cav ones. Maybe the bracket too so its easier to mount but I made my own bracket.
The wiring is easy its a connection to the battery via an 80amp maxi fuse, an earth, an ignition switched live and a connection to the blue/white wire on the alternator.
