    Rear shoes wearing unevenly

Been working on a 106 today. Poor handbrake so took the drums off and this is what i found.

I noticed no play in the drums before they were removed.

What could be causing the drums to sit like this and have it still rotate freely without binding up.

One side had more camber on the shoes than the other.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    106's rear brakes are toss

Sure the self adjusters are working correctly?

Anyway, stick a new set of shoes and and see how you go.

The handbrake was almost vertical. When you looked underneath one handbrake cable was taught the other was slack.
Have tried fitting new shoes with the adjuster completely slack, the drum will go on but is binding on the shoes.
The drums on the inside have been wirebrushed to get rid of the rusty lip they had.

I know these cars suffer with beam problems with the bearing going on the arms but not on the stub axels.

    Thanks for your reply Paul

Not changed the wheel cylinders at all have you?

Are you 100% sure the parts you have are correct?

French rear brakes are a pain when ordering parts. So many different shoes etc.

One wheel cylinder has been changed.

Shoes have been matched. There are two types for the car and we have the identical ones that came off it.

I really need to get to the bottom of the uneven wear on the original shoes. Any ideas.

I really dont see a major issue mate with the wear.

I'm more concerned with the fact that you cannot even get the drums back on.

Last one I did was a ball ache. In the end I welded the adjuster. Could not get any bits for it.
Was an old 93/94 reg one.
Adjuster was too worn to hold right.

Made a mental note to quote more money when doing anything French.

Not sure if the hand brake cable is like the 306 ( 2 parts) but sounds like you will need a new one of them as well if one side is tight while the other is slack
