    Astra G front pads change

Planning to do this in the morning, when I did the rears I needed the rewind tool for the caliper which my mate has borrowed and lost. Is it needed for the fronts, or will good old fashioned giant grips do the job?

Car is 2003 but don't suppose that makes a difference.

    Cheers in advance!

Nope just a big screw driver.

Surely you are only pulling it one way though? ie. you are pulling it along its length.

I would recommend cracking off the bleed nipples whilst you push the piston back. I know 99% of the time it's OK, but I have heard of people messing up the master cylinder.

I just take it super steady with my clamp, never had an issue, but see your point Dan.

A guy at work asked me the exact same question and I answered in the same way. Monday I asked him how it went and he said he got the pads and discs on fine, but the car was now on it's way to a garage for a master cylinder. That's always stuck in mu head. Plus it sometimes forces the really nasty black crappy fluid out that otherwise stays in the caliper.

Cheers guys. Got called into work so now tackling this in the dark tomorrow night instead glad there's no extra faffing to be done anyway
And Dan yes I do this too now, always just pushed them back myself until a friend said he had knackered the master cylinder. I'm 99% sure he would have wrenched them back and generally took no care whatsoever, but even so, sticks in my mind too!

    Thanks again
