i have, but it was a old crappy cheapo thing with a bodge job connection on it, and i had to leave the alt cable layin in the bay while i tried it...... i want proper cable, thicker, because somethings had to fry it in the 1st place.....all crimped with the correct things and everything linked as it should be.

Cheers, defo starter rated cables? all crimped with the correct ends etc?

Ive nicked some welders cable from work, nice thick stuff, tri-rated... that should cope with it providing i can find lugs etc to fit the battery and motor and alt

Would prefer pre made stuff though, rather then me fannying on all day

all wired up correctly mate but thanks for the picture....

I HAVE FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!!! SWEAR!CURSE!SWEAR!CURSE!SWEAR!CURSE!SWEAR!

IT WAS THE BASTARD POSITIVE CABLE, SOME WALLY HAS JOINED IT....AND DONE A PRETTY CRAP JOB AT THAT TBH. SHOULD NEVER OF BEEN JOINED!!! FEKING THINGS GOT ABOUT A METRE'S PLAY ON IT!

SCRAPED THE BATTERY TERMINAL AND THE 4 INCHS OF CABLE ATTATCHED TO IT...... NEW BATTERY TERMINAL AND RE-CRIMPED TO REMAINDER OF CABLE ATTACTHED TO MOTOR....... SOLVED!

NOW STARTING BETTER THEN IT EVER HAS, ALWAYS SOUNDED LIKE A BIT OF A WET FART TBH.... AND EVERYTHING IS NICE AND BRIGHT AND FULL OF POWER!

THANKS TO ALL THAT HELPED OR HAD SOME INPUT! If anyone needs a z20leh alt or starter.... there tested and working lol £120 down the drain!

Glad it's sorted - better keep the 'new' spares - you'll probably need them a week after you sell them...

hence why it is better to spend some time diagnosing things foirst instead of just going out to replace suspect parts, i.e. check that all voltages etc are present when required under full loaded condition, in your case if you had placed a DVM (digital volt meter) or even a light bulb at the starter motor terminal and earth, and got someone to crank, the bulb would have almost not have lit when trying to crank and may have lit fully well when not being cranked, thats how you learn and gain experience mate.

True, Cant beat experience......... I shall live and learn as it was a costly mistake, at a bad time of year to chuck 120 snots away. In my defense though, its only b'coz its a conversion someones been lazy and cut + joined the two cables.... under normal circumstances that would have never crossed my mind to check for something like that. It was purely down to losing my rag and yanking the cable out the car, it must of been the only 2 inches of cable i hadnt pulled out the casing and checked over.

    Once again thanks everyone!
