Right indeed, temp is just too high. Been working on my engine for the same reason lately. Might be a head gasket failure, you can buy a test kit for this which you connect to the expansion tank. When exhaust fumes are passing (even the tiniest bit that won't even ruin compression) there will be discolouration and definitely a head gasket failure...

Been swapping the radiator for a full alloy one, it just barely helps. Gonna swap the pump first and inspect the old one, when that looks fine I am going to do that head gasket test.

Can't hurt to do a compression test, if that test fails you've definitely got something to worry about....

I know all about that headache of yours mate, I've been flushing the system as well, with clean water and a cup of washing liquid, then tons of clean water and again with vinegar, flushed with tons of clean water and put coolant in. Then got some very worrying brown rusty foam on top in the expansion tank the days after. Thought it was the porous head problem, so flushed the system once again and put some cheap coolant in and now it stays superbly clean. Made a difference to the temperature as well.

My engine has been sitting still for a couple of years before I got to use it, had it checked and it was put away with some oil in the cylinders and all coolant drained, crankshaft was turned every once in a few weeks. Engine always ran fine from the start. It does seem however that a lot of gunk got dried up inside and the flushing softened it up, but it came out later on....

Good luck with it and do try to get your sleep and stay healthy!

Right done a head gasket test that's fine stayed blue, also iv just noticed the 2 pipes that go to the header tank the one on the left if i take it off water is coming out if i rev it it gets faster, but if i take the one on the right off that comes from the top off the rad no water comes out even if i rev it, should water be running through it or is it just for expansion???? or could it just be lack of air flow through the rad?

No, that one is just for the purpose of (auto) bleeding to get the last air out. When the system operates all the water goes through the large hose somewhat lower on the rad.

You could put the thermostat in boiling water to see if it opens... Some guys run without the thermostat, but I can't really approve of that, should just work fine with the thermostat, if it opens it opens...

    Re: Corsa fan rad switch

Think its sorted now...well its a lot better anyway, i took the thermostat out and put it in boiling water....and nothing happened!! so im running it without the stat in now and iv also fitted this eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace it opens at 97c but my clocks are still saying its over 100c by time the fan kicks in, so i think my clocks are no good (ebay crap!!) so now when i drive around temps sit at about 92-95 but that could mean 90c with my f****D clocks
So thanks everyone for you help

I'd definitely get a replacement stat mate a working one will give you no problems. When cruising my let stays steady at 90 deg.
