Cooling fans not working cav v6

i have done an engine change on my cav v6 and now the fans dont seem to be kicking in, i at first did a little mistake when putting the wires back on

the secondry fan sensor and the reverse swith have the same plug and wires, so yes thee reverse lights came on when the engine got hot and the fans worked when it put it in reverse! silly mistake

i have changed the wires round and now the fans dont seem to work, normally when i got out of the car after a run the fan and pump would start up or if the temp got to about 90-95

i need to tow with the car this weekend and i need the fans to work!

i could do a temp job and put a swith in place to get them to work for now but any ieads on how to fix

the car was a v6 to start with ?

and you have just changed the engine cus it was broken ?

I guess you should bridge the wire on that temperature switch and see if the fans run slow. (if they do that would be a good enough fix to tow with)
If they do you may have blown the temperature switch.

Otherwise you need to prod relays and fuse in the engine bay (with the wire bridge inplace) and see if the fans start

Is your fan a two speed one, if so then you could keep the lower speed to come on using a bypass link on the rad switch if it has 3 wires, if you short or bridge any two wires it should bring the fan on depending which two points you short; you may get either the high speed (full blast) or the lower speed which is what you really should use, you may join two wrong points on that switch where by nothing would happen, so don't worry you won't blow anything, with 3 wires there are 3 possibilites, two of which will bring the fan on either lower or higher speed and the 3rd position would yield nothing.

I do not reccomend using a high speed as this could impose a lot of load on your battery/alternator (around 40amps) and could overheat the fan motor.

By doing this you would also find out whether it is your fan switch or some other wiring issue such as bad fan relays.

If nothing happens when you bridge those wires, then you could be having a problem on the fan relays.

i changed the engine because one of the heads had gone so i put in a x25xe,
the main fan switch has 2 wires going to it

the fan works if i short out the wires and the relay is also working, i then removed the sensor (90462372) and placed it in a cup of boiling hot water and nothing

is the sensor a dealer part or is it something i can get at a motor factor?

    thanks

THere is your answer then. Have you not got a sensor from the old engine ?

To others: The V6 fan system is quite different to other models. The low speed sensor is on the thermostat housing. I'm not sure a motor factors would stock it. But worth ago. or autovaux.
