    Corsa wheel bearing

recently bought a corsa, over the past month ive had it i noticed it started snatching the steering when turning left, getting worse and worse. finally had the time to look at it yesterday while doing the brakes. we noticed the passenger disc had been ground away by the caliper but the pads still had loads of meat on them. when we jacked the car up the wheel flopped with the hub like there was no wheel bearing! when looking closer we noticed there was no split pin in the shaft holding the castle nut tight and it has come loose, after tightening the nut, it went past the hole on the shaft to tighten fully the wheel had stopped being floppy, and when spun it made no usual bearing noises as if it had gone. would you say it had been crushed down and thats why the nut had tightened past the split pin hole on the shaft?

ive bought another bearing just incase, do you have to have them pressed in or do they just sit with the sirclips?

generally you don’t, either remove the hub carrier and take it to a garage or as a proper last resort you can hammer them in and out, but its very difficult as you need to support the inner race when fitting the hub etc, i would just go to a garage
as for the nut going past the hole on the cv, is there a washer fitted? seems odd if not, as i doubt you could collapse a bearing in that way and have it still spin, could be the wrong outer cv or something but thats doubtful too, i would want to be replacing the bearing anyway too as they don’t like being run with no clamping load keeping the races together

Think you hit the nail on the head lee303, luckily the bearing is fine, it needs a washer and pinning. Disc has had it though, so new brakes and where can I buy the hub kit from with washer nut and pin?
