digital dash illuminates green but no digits

My digital dash will illuminate with a green background when I turn on the ignition but is not showing any digits eg no speed, rev, oil press, water temp etc
Any ideas what it could be, is there a specific wire which illuminates all the functions/digits

Check there is +12v going to the two black wires on the white plug with the ignition on and the three brown wires on the white plug are grounded.

The three black wires supply power to different parts of the dash. One does the backlights if I remember rightly. Could be one of the wires has come loose.

The white plug supplies the excitation current for the alternator to start charging via the battery warning light so it may be with the white plug removed, the alternator wasn't giving out any power.
