MK3 Astra: Seatbelt issues

Hi gents

Car 1997 P Mk3 Astra 1.4

Drivers seat belt catch doesn't appear to be working correctly

The catch doesn't clip into the clasp cleanly it finally clips in if you give it a few smacks, recently it has started popping out whilst driving

Guessing the best option is to change the seat belt clasp

Am i right in thinking that this car will have pre tensioners?

Is it a straight forward job to change the clasp?

Yeh just whip it out

1 bolt holds it in. Best just check if you have pre tensioners. You probably do

Should be a sticker telling to you how to handle them, there is a clip to stop the device from going off you can use.

Just be carefull with it, never bothered using the clip myself

I had this problem and solved it by prising off the plastic cover around the clasp, to find a spring had popped out. You may have to break out the plastic to get at it but it's only cosmetic and can be glued back.

You will have pre-tensioners, the easiest thing you can do is get a replacement subframe from the scrappy, 4 bolts to remove the seat, the 4 more to remove the subframe from the seat.

Simples.

It will be obvious if you have pre-tensioners, there will be a big cable attached to the socket with a cylinder covered in warning stickers on the other end.

As Rusty says, easiest thing to do is get a subframe from another Astra and swap them over.

It took me 10 minutes and absolutely nothing to replace the spring that had popped out in mine, that's probably all it is.

Before you mess about, try a little WD40 in it.

Sounds silly but the same happened on my old MK3 Astra, a quick squirt to get rid of the grime inside and it was fine ever after.
