Are you sure that the starter you swapped for is any good?

I'd check you battery is holding a charge, sounds flat to me.

as above, and also try jump leads with a running vehicle hooked up (have a fresh air break) then try, if you have a low amp chager it can take all night/never to charge a flat/knackered battery
    show no fear...................grab another gear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

done this a few times and have had the same thing happen check the main live to the starter in tight as a slightly lose one wont work just check its niped up with a spanner .it happens because when you put in the starter the twisting makes it loosen off .

Yes the startor i put on is a good spare one. Basically today i cleaned up all the earths cleaned the wiring going onto the startor motor, still did the same. Swapped over batterys with my mums. still did the same so put mine on i put the battery charger on it whilst having a jump lead going from neg to battery to gear box to act as an earth to rule out the gear box to chassis earth still clicked when trying to start. Left the jump lead still on turned the ignition on and got a wire and bridged the back of the starter the engine fired up straight away. I then removed the jump lead to neg on battery still started up, removed the wire on back of the stater motor. wiggled the wiring around still started up. I had a look at the igniton switch ont he barrel but didnt know how to get it off so left it incase i broke it. Anyone got any ideas on what it could be thanks
