    Re: safe ?

sounds like a loose earth or some other connection somewhere, first;y check the main ones from the battery to chassis and then engine to chassis, and go from there on, also check that battery terminals are really bolted tight on, as some vauxhall cars have a number of smaller wires bolted on the side of the main battery terminal clamps, and although the main clamp can be tight fit around the post, but its the smaller eye lets that can be loose. One of these could be loose feeding your alarm system which may be keep triping it and immobilising your car, so Check both on positive and negative terminals that the bolts are tight enough.

    Re: safe ?

I don't know if yours use a multipin loom connector near the battery like in a Calibra, this can often come loose or not snapped on properly and can play havock with electrics.

    Re: Electrical problems

Well then that is what your problem is then as was suggested by others but you said your battery was fine hence why I suggested check for loose connections, so afterall it had been all along your battery that went down, and a battery going down can cause all the symptoms you described, so perhaphs try charging your battery overnight and see what happens, how old is your batt, if its over 3 to 5 years oldf it may well be on for a replacement.
