Re: Fitting Top Nut On Spax

There should be a flattened of section at the top of the threaded portion, use a small spanner or shifting spanner to hold the shaft while tightening up the nut - there should be an illustration in the box to show how far/tight the nut should be.

Re: Fitting Top Nut On Spax

I had the same problem, even with an impact gun - just kept spinning the shaft and wouldn't tighten down properly so I bought a deep socket nice and cheap and cut the side out of it so I could get a spanner on the top of the shaft and a torque wrench on the nut.

Edit: You can also buy sockets made exactly for that purpose but they were expensive compared to my nasty bodge!

Thanks for all the feedback guys, found out i was being a dick and using a bolt with the wrong thread, the spax shafts are a fine thread where as i was trying to use a big thread nut, nut went straight on after that, all sorted now, thanks again

i was about to say the nuts are different thread ,always wind the nuts on before you assemble to make sure they fit as i have bought new strut inserts & they put the wrong nuts in the box & i had loads of fun till i realised " i always check now ,
