Its fine if its been stitch welded, and has a HH kit fitted.

I disagree. Its not abouit stiffening the whole shell but rather the fr structure that supports the engine & box. If this doesnt stay stiff & straight, you cant put down power effectively & will suffer poor traction aswell as possible seams parting company from the rest of the body shell.

Plate kit & stitch welding a must. Roll cage optional.

Only use a rust free/sound body shell IMO.

.
I didnt say anything about it stiffening...
I've seen a few plating kits(dont know if they are hh stuff) but its just cut bits of metal, not amasingly thick, cover its just covering seams, which welding does.
If its not a rust bucket then welding it will strenghen it right up to take the extra weigh.

Remember the hh kits where from rally cars.. which need the stiffening cause of the abuse they get, from bumps jumps and things, not cause of a big engine.

Re: Nova turbo strengthen

If you have the kit fitted sure you'll be strong enough, welded the rest is done for track cars more..

The Nova bodyshell was initially designed with the 1.3 8v being the pokiest engine it was going to have. 200lb/ft is a damn sight more.

I wouldnt say the whole shell needs stitching, but after having my smallblock plated & stitched I can say the difference was eye opening & have to reccomend it tbh.

[edit] Also essential IMO is the boxed TCA's & polybushes.

Oh yeah, any flex down there doesnt help the tyre contact patch.

I can't believe yours arent done, essential on big blocks.

Stitch weld.. weld an inch, leave an inch, weld an inch (& so on)

Stitch the turrets to inner wings, inner wings to chassis legs. (look) through the wheel arch & against the bulkhead - stitch the chassis legs to bulkhead.

You basically want to fix all the panels together that form the chassis in front of the bulkhead.

imho the front panel is the worst offender, and made a lot worse if its rusty.

I've never liked the idea since picking my mate up when he slid in to a high kerb and you could see where it bent to save any real damage.. and seeing some ones on here years ago that bent the chassis in when they did the same with boixed in ones..
I just bought new ones when i rebuilt it..
