    Corsa Aircon Not working.

Just bought a corsa sport x14xe which is fitted with aircon, currently the aircon doesnt work but id like to get it going, ive checked all the fuses and they are ok, after doing a search i understand that it may need a re gas and it wont work if the pressure is low, after pressing the little valve under the bonnet there seems to be no pressure. Before i have it regassed tho i would like to check that other bits of it works, when i switch it on the engine doesnt change tone, and the fan doesnt come in so i belive the clutch isnt coming in on the pump. should the clutch still come in with no gas? also if there is a pressure switch for low pressure is it posible to short it out and where is it? just so i can check the clutch on pump and the compressor?

No the pump wont do anything anless there is gas in the system.

thought that was the case, did a search before i post but couldnt work out if the clutch would still come in. Just need a pressure switch to short and see if the system works then before i spend money on a re-gas

anyone got any ideas where the low pressure switch mite be hiding? or could i just stick 12v across the cables on the pump to see if it engages?

right slightly more of a problem now, ive bought some r134a gas and refilled the system as instructed with it switched on and when the gauge got to blue as it should the pump kicked in, sounds a bit rough but spinswith belt. The aircon system seems to be making the right noises but not getting cold, the only thing i noticed is that the fan on the front of the rad isn't running, should it be? if so the fan seems to tight to turn although i can get to it properly, should the fan come in with the rest of the system?

ANyone got any ideas what the problem is, also it doesnt seem to be leaking as its holding pressure

    Cheers

The cooling fan must be running for air con to work as the gas must be cooled to condenes into liquid! to get the air con working 100% the whole system has to be evacuated down for a half hour then charged with the correct quantity of r134a gas!
If the clutch engages and the fan remains off then the clutch should dis-engageto save from a build up in pressure! take it for a spin up the road, you should get air con out the vents as the wind passes though the condenser!

by compressor do you mean the pump thing with the belt running around it, if so yes that engages and the centre then turns with the outside, sorry never had ac before so new to me

Yeah thats the conpressor/pump! the cooling fan needs to run as well, if it does not then thats the next thing to fix! you said its hard to turn by hand? with the engine running and a/c turned on give the fan a spin and see if it starts to turn! or put a 12v feed directly to it with the fan unpluged, if i does not work then the fan unit is faulty!

i will sort that next then and go from there, will that stop the aircon from getting cold then?

yeah coz the condensor needs the cold air for 2 reasons. to extract the hot air absorbed by the evaporator. to condense the gas into liquid! if the fan does not operate than the pressure will be to high and the system will not operate!
