I have just got an XE with 45's fitted, it came with a dizzy, a coil and an amp but no loom and it was wired with a custom loom when it was removed from the car, again loom was removed before I got the engine. Hence I have no idea how to re-wire the ignition side.
I have read two different solutions, one doesn't use the amp the other does. Can anybody tell me, does the amp help control ignition advance? Its just it takes the revcounter input, so wondering if the amp advances the ignition at higher rev's?
Anyhow onto the main question, can anyone confirm the following wiring and which one is best to use (the dizzy does have vac advanced, but it is blocked off with nowhere on the manifold to atach it to)?
Without Amp:
Dizzy (o / pin 2) - Green - tacho (Not needed)
Dizzy (+ / pin 1) - Red - +12v ign
Dizzy (- / pin 3) - Black - Negative trigger on Coil (-)
Coil (+) - Black - +12v ign
With Amp:
Coil (+) - Black - +12v ign
Coil (-) - Green - Amp pin 1 (Also rev counter)
Amp pin 1 - Green - Coil (-) (Also rev counter)
Amp pin 2 - Brown - Ground
Amp pin 3 - Brown/White - Dizzy (- / pin 3)
Amp pin 4 - Black - +12v ign
Amp pin 5 - Black/Yellow - Dizzy (+ / pin 1)
Amp pin 6 - Blue/Green - Dizzy (o / pin 2)
Dizzy pin 1 (+) - Black/Yellow - Amp pin 5
Dizzy pin 2 (o) - Blue/Green - Amp pin 6
Dizzy pin 3 (-) - Brown/White - Amp pin 3
Additionally to getting the wiring working for now, does anyone know much about the megasquirt?
Basically I still have a dis-pack from my old engine so was thinking of using something like megasquirt just for the ignition side of things.
I know there is megajolt but as far as I know that doesn't work with the vaux crank sensor and 60-2 pickup wheel. And I don't want to add the edis system.
I think the megasquirt will work with just a crank sensor and trigger wheel. It apparently would also need a coolant temp sensor (which is still on the engine) and an air intake temp sensor (which I have from the old engine but would need plumbing in) but that is just something I have been told and am not sure if it actually would need them?
Can anyone tell me if this would work, and what components I would need? I don't mind building the boards up my self as if I go down this route I want to spend as little as possible on it!
Thanks in advance!
